Mazda Protege 5 Blue
Hello everyone,

I have a Mazda Protege 5 that has 224,000km on it. I recently had the brakes done. I have noticed a burning smell that comes in the cabin after I drive more than 20 km however it goes on and off. When I pop the hood the engine looks moist around certain areas. I have noticed a decrease in my fuel economy. I attached a few pictures, does anyone have any ideas of what could be wrong?

Looks like the valve cover gasket. Try tightening the bolts first, but the gasket is probably hard and needs to be replaced.

What did the brake job include? New calipers? If not, calipers can start sticking once new pads and rotors are installed if the piston or guide pin boots were torn and allowed dirt in. Next time you drive that 20 km get out and feel all of your rims, calipers, and rotors. Be careful, they can get really hot when sticking. The 2 fronts should be the same temp, and the 2 rears should be the same temp.

These cars burn oil. You could be smelling that.
