Burning oil Smell? 300 Miles

Hey all, got a new CX-5 Touring a few days ago with 11 miles on it. Love the car, only one problem: it smells like what I believe to be burning oil. I've smelled it since about 20 miles and it's most noticeable after any kind of moderate acceleration (such as getting on the interstate).. A few seconds later there is a faint smell. The smell is coming through the fresh air vents. Did anyone else have this issue, and is it normal with such low miles? If so, at which point should I be concerned?

Thanks!

With only 300 miles your engine compartment should be very clean. Have you looked around to see if you can see any oil leaks?

My new vehicle had tons of odd smells for the first 1000 miles or so, including weird burning ones like you would describe. I suspect it's likely due to all sorts of oil/plastic getting heated up for the first time.

It is perfectly normal!

The manufacturer leaves a thin coat of oil many of the components, such as engine block and various parts of exhaust system. It is to prevent corrosion during storage and transit.

It will burn off during your break-in period, so you shouldn't have any problem after a few thousand miles. Cheers.

Thanks for the replies all. Oil cap/dipstick look good, couldn't see any oil. I suspect it's probably the random materials and chemicals getting broken in. Will keep an eye on it after a few thousand miles if it's still around.

When my wife bought her 2014 CX5, the sales guy warned her that she would notice strange smells during the first break-in miles for the same reason NinjaNoises noted. They did go away.
