Dog gonnit! Got into a minor fender/bumper accident today. Some fool driving a white 91 Mazda 626 DX headed straight towards me in MY lane on the road.
It was a small turning access road to Fry's Electronic store. Sucker must have thought he was driving on a race trace or something. Hugging MY side of the curb like it was his teddy bear.
Thank goodness we both were not going too fast to hit head on. He caught his mistake last moment and twisted his direction to the right before his left rear bumper caught my left front bumper. If I had a little room to my right I would have avoided him completely. My brakes worked really well... slowed me to a crawl without even making a noise.
His car did more damage to MY car too. His bumper has an obvious huge black scratch on it, but my bumper is all torn up on the lower left side. My fog light on that side doesn't work, but not cracked or anything. My hood is scratched on that side too. Doesn't seem to be any internal damage to cause unwanted leaks of any kind. I probably got lucky that the hit wasn't past the 5 MPH bumper collision limit. Headlight is scratched to hell, but still intact.
So the question is this, how can I get a carbon hood to replace my damaged hood?
Ok ok, just kidding. I was so upset that it was the only insane idea I could come up with that cheered me up.
The dude had insurance and used same insurance company as me, Geico, so lucky me. The only problem now is to hope he doesn't forfeit admittance to being at fault. Him and his buddy at the scene were totally knowing that they were at fault (duh, coming staight at me on my lane??), but insurance lady told me that there are people out there who would try to dispute the charge to get away with accepting the claim on their policy. One thing though, I know where he lives and I'm not afraid of going back there (since I had to follow him back to his place so he could show me the proof of insurance card that he didn't remember to keep inside his car) to beat the crap out of him and his buddy. Hopefully, everything will work because they did seem like decent people (I also know where they work too) and were very nice to me and very cooperative with the information.
Getting repair appraisal tomorrow morning.
