you dont need to build an engine for 230hp-250hp its all about how hard you drive your car

I know yours was pretty quick, Yea as for not needing to build i just feel better i know people have still blown them after a build though. I dont drive hard at all either only time i really have fun with the car is on saturdays cuz im at work 24/7. Im still looking around for a good shop here i hardly see any mazda peeps in MD for some thou.

I say bike. I want a bike myself, but Im not getting one until I purchase a house, so that I can put it in the garage.

Ditto, i have said the same thing as well. I feel bad enough the STI has to sit outside.

I would get a bike though, you will have more fun and prob spend less money in the future.

yea i guess so im just more aware of other people i guess. i do a delivery/sale route pretty much everyday so im on the road. i drive a big truck most of the time theres some kinda of fucktards out there that dont pay attention...

I was just saying a bike isn't my thang due the least amount of protection it offers at any given speed. Whether its 65mph or 40mph. Its not about how good you ride or how fast your going, Its the other idiot who isn't paying attention to the road that tends to fubar things. But to eachs own.

this happened on a sunny afternoon, ~45mph(under posted speed limit), old lady just wasn't payin attention to what she was doing that day and 3yrs later i'm still in pain because of it. don't get me wrong, i still ride, i have another bike, but nothing is the same. all it takes is one time, one mistake, maybe not even your mistake, and you could pay a pretty hefty price.
i don't mean to rain on anyones parade but sometimes it's nice to see the harsh reality.
If you have a family (wife, kids) i say forget the bike for now. If you are single and no one will miss you that much, absolutely opt for the bike.

Man that blow's. Sorry to see that happened. I mean the main thing you have to worry about is other drivers as was mentioned earlier. My brother has 3 bikes and is always telling me stories about people that cut him off, or are just doing stupid stuff and not paying attention.

I plan on getting a bike in the future just to cruise around on.

If you decide to get a bike be careful. I've had two friends who were killed riding bikes they weren't even going fast. The died in the flow of traffic by people who didn't even see them. s***'s not a game.

Well peoples thanks for everyones advice i have decided on what i am doing. I am not getting a bike nor am i building my engine the wife and i had a longgggg talk. I just moved to Maryland (military) and since the move and the economy sucks my wife is having trouble finding a job (damn even with a a degree and govt work experience). I got a couple of quotes for insurance and its looking like i will pay about 140 no matter where i go and thats for a ninja 250. The build would be expensive as well so i will hold off until the wifey finds work again. As of right now im doing little things to the car. Just got a Intake mani and purchased a new ATP WGA soon to come some cams. Thanks for helping me make a decision i still want a bike though ahhhh i need one.

I know the decision is no longer out there but a 600 cc bike for a starter is a bad idea. Ask any MSF coach or any seasoned rider.

It's not the power delivery at all. It's the fact they are extremely sensitive to steering and braking inputs. When you are first cutting your teeth on 2 wheels, you need a much larger fudge factor that non super sport bikes provide. You need room for error and a chassis that won't pitch you into oncoming traffic when you make the usual new rider mistakes.


I've always suggested the GS500 or EX500 as good beginner bikes. I know they lack the general sexiness of 600cc and up sport bikes but so does not having a leg....or worse.
