Broken intake manifold stud.......

Well I have broken the top passenger side intake manifold stud off. I have read time and time again that is very important to make sure the manifold is on tight. I tightened everything very well. Started the car up and had a very bad leak. It was obvious that The manifold was not on good enough. Well while tightening everything i broke off the upper driverside stud. I am so angry. I was being very careful. I guess not enough. How difficult will this be to fix? What steps should I go about fixing this? Where would be a good place to get everything I need correctly fix this?

what exactly did you do? you would have noticed when tightening if the stud just... fell off...

the top driver side or passenger side, which is it?

do you mean exhaust manifold, or intake?

If you take the manifold off again ,you will a new gasket , Take a look if there is some of the stud left ,if there is them it is reasy ,just get a pair of vice grips and grab the stud and turn it out . If the studsa are flush then you have to drill the center of the stud and use an easy out to get the stud out . You may have to remove the head to do this .

the only way it could break off is if he over tightened it... I'm going to bet that he didn't use a torque wrench

you can order a new stud from the dealer, the part number is 9985-10-825A
you'll probably need a new nut also... part number is 9994-00-801

This is very true. I skipped out on that. I have a torque wrench and I did not use it. Thats why I am so mad at myself. There is some of the stud left(top passenger side/intake manifold). It is barely past the manifold. Maybe 1" to 1 1/2" left. Thanks for the part #s. Well be calling mazda tomorrow morning.

Well the stud come out pretty easy with vice grips? There is enough to get a grip on it.
