Broadening the power band on an FC

90 Mazda RX7 Vert
So I got this 90 RX7 Vert.
I don't want to do modify it too much, I just want a nice cruiser. I was thinking about getting some 4-2-1 headers, a ram air intake and a cat back exhaust.
I see a lot of people with Racing Beat exhausts and was curious about those.

What do you guys think?

FC's have a power Band?

Wouldn't that require them to have some power?

First off...4-2-1 would imply it has 4 exhaust exits...13b's only have 2. Secondly as long as your 5/6 ports and vdi are working and the car has good compresion you should have a pretty good powerband.

Racing beat will probably be a quieter route for the exhuast but its going to be costly. You also have the option with racing beat of running a full true dual exhaust system.

The header and exhaust will get you some extra power. If you have to do a clutch job anytime soon make sure to get a lighter flywheel in there with the new clutch.

If you have the energy/cash a turbo engine swap came make a convertable get up and go. One of the guys here at the shop have one with a RE-Amemiya ported engine and aT04E and it does really good. That does fall into the more than a little bit catagory though.

So I guess that means no headers then, right?

I don't think I will need to have any work done on the car anytime soon.
I am getting the car from the original owner with 89,000 on the frame and 24,000 on the engine and the clutch. The car is TOTALLY cherry, the guy has babied the thing. Completely original, even has ALL the service records for it. Only think I should have to fix is the wiper switch which I understand goes out on all of them.

I do want a true dual exhaust but not really worried about it being to quiet, I love to cruise around with the top down and listen to the engine. The turbo setup may come later on but for now I just want to have a nice car to cruise around in. I live in KY and have lots of nice twisty country roads to scoot around on so that's the kind of setup I am going for.

Nah it has headers but its essentially just a 2-1 header or a 2-2 if its true dual.

And trust me if you haven't heard a na rotary with exhaust on it you either get loud or stupid loud there is no quiet

Here is a Rx7 header. This one below is specifically a CorkSport header.

So does Corksport have a 2-2 header?
What type of gains could I expect from the AutoRAM EXE intake?

No as far as I know rb makes the only true dual. Corksport has that setup because they only make a single exit exhaust (sounds great and looks great just super loud, I run their cat back)

The autoexe ram air intake is cool and all and you probably will see some gains but its superexpensive. Best bet would be a cone filter and an airbox to block out the hot air.

the true dual exhaust is AWESOME.. I ran it on my n/a. Racing beat has GREAT QUALITY PARTS..

As for a "cold air intake" just move the air filter to outside of the engine bay (dont worry about water because rotaries do not hydro lock).

just a good tune up will help to (plugs, wires, fuel filter, fresh fluids. You would be surprised to see how many people neglect to realize that a tune up is essential for good power

So I assume that RB's comes with the headers then? Where could I get one at?
Would the gains with the autoEXE ram air be considerable? What about the effect on fuel mileage. What about platinum spark plugs would those help any?

?Suspension mods?

I see that damn Baby eater on every one of these rotary sites it seems. I love the look of that thing with out the front bumper though, just damn aggressive if you ask me.
Oh yeah just so ya know, your "brute" stabbed me to death.
LOL

All racing beat stuff can be bought from their site racingbeat.com

Autoexe...not a lot of gain...like I said looks cool but not worth it.

Suspension....sky is the limit there depends on how deep your pockets are and what you want to do.

I suggest sticking with mazda plugs and wire...nothing really better on an essentially stock build.

I would suggest changing the plugs and wires out as well as a first mod. We have had some many cars come in over the years with a "my car feels down one power". We pull the plugs out and see that they should have been replace 20k miles ago.

The AutoExe intake is nice but there are most cost effective ways to get power. A good mix of exhaust parts would be our header, high flow catalyst and a a cat back of some kind. I would stick with racing beat if you are looking for something quieter. If you like the canister type we should have a 2.5 pipe size exhaust finished up in the next couple of months. It should be quieter than the 80mm exhaust we have.

There is a huge range of suspension parts out there for the FC. If you are just daily driving the car KYB AGX or Tokico Illuminas with a set of lower springs do a good job. Get some strut bars as well. They help some with the cowl shake over bumps.

spot on.

Just hypothetically
What about a renesis swap? The new ones are rated at 230 hp and 160 lb ft/tq. I'd imagine that would make things a little more interesting the RX8 has got to way quite a bit more than an FC vert right?

They weigh about the same the vert may even have a little bit on the rx8. The renesis is very far from a direct drop in it takes quite a bit of work to get it in the fc. It would take a lot less work and give you a lot more potential to throw in a 13b-t

dont put a renesis in... it would cost way to much.. and the possibilities are far from great like they are with a 13B REW or RE
