Brightness of HVAC/MPG display

I drive around with my headlights on all the time because the car (2013 Touring with tech) has auto-off but not auto-on. I have no problems with this except that in bright sunlight I can barely see the HVAC/MPG display. The brightness control does not let it get bright enough when the headlights are on. Is there a way to make it brighter? If not, is there a way to disconnect it from the headlights so that it thinks the headlights are always off?

On my 2010, there is a push/twist button, opposite of the trip ODO reset, if you push that, the display remains at max output.

Perfect! That did exactly what I wanted to do. I had of course tried twisting it but I didn't know that you could push it. Thank you very much!
