Break in For new 2003 pro5

Just got my 5 last week...got 400miles on it now. Been trying to keep it at 3k shifts. But man I'm shifting like crazy! This motor loves to rev! Any advice on proper break in?

Though some might think this is overkill, I change my oil and filter at 500 miles on all new cars. Reason behind this is, most of your metal particals that will come loose from breaking in the engine will happen in the first 500 miles or so. By changing the oil and filter, you remove all the harmful particals and any break in lube that can clog the filter. Remember, if the filter clogs and the pressure become to high, the oil will bypass the filter completely. This is where the real damage comes in. Once the 500 mile change is done, then I will change the oil every 3000 miles.

My .02 worth. Take it for what it's worth. L8R

That was going to be my next question. Havent looked for the oil filter yet. Can I get to it with out jacking up the car? Looking to pick up one of these...Hate getting under my cars.

One last question. Are the 5's unibodies? I though they were. The dealer kept telling me that the body is put on the frame...tried to sell me an undercoat.

Hi guys,

This is my first post, but I've been reading for a couple 'o weeks. I've had my P5 for a month now and absolutely love it!!!!!! I tried to give mine a good break-in period, but I drive interstate to work every day and I went on a long road trip to Atlanta (700 miles round trip) with little over 300 miles on it. Does it reeeaaallly need a break-in period or what? I did change the oil at 1500mi and intend on changing it every 3k. Thanks!!!

Oh, by the way, you do need to jack the car up a little to get to the filter and the first time getting it off ain't easy.:)

Yes, the P5 (as well as most FWD cars) are unibody. Even a lot of RWD cars are. Most truck though are not.

Getting the filter off for the 1st time is a b****! i had to take mine to a shop and give them a few bucks to get it off.
