Brass Shifter Bushings

Hey there, just thought I'd share something I made and installed. Inspired by the kartboy bushings, I made these with some spare time at school, and after working the diameter down to fit they slid right in, and feels pretty sweet! Tell me what you think!

Sorry for the fuzzy pic

Yeah, the poly. bushings that Kartboy makes are made that way to absorb some of the vibration, but be stiff enough. If you didn't need a compliant bushing, you may as well weld the tranny arm in place.

Nice job on machining though. Brass can be finicky sometimes if your feeds and speeds aren't set properly.

have you installed them? how do they perform?
They feel really nice and tight, like the kartboy ones. There is a little bit of play around the sleeve, which is why they're probably not as rigid feeling as if they were machined to exactly fit right tight on that sleeve. The sleeve I'm talking about is the one on the bolt holding it all together, there is a steel sleeve that the bushings slid on to. I'm pleased with them though, we'll just have to see how long they last!

i would imagine vibration would be disguisting
Surprisingly no. I left a little bit of play in them for that reason. If I made them to be a super tight fit all the way around then yea, I'm sure there would be some crazy vibes going on!

Thanks!I love machining brass! Finish on them looks great when things are going smooth! Like I said above, you'd be surprised at how they feel!!

Do you have the Bronzeoils or stock shifter bushings? I have the Bronzoils and adding more brass to the set-up might make things unbarable vibration wise. Of course, I'm not really sure how changing to the Kartboys or these would effect feel/performance that much in the first place since there's realy no movement ofhat part of the transmission.

In any case, I really envy your ability to work metal. I think I might have to remake all sorts of parts on my car...custom shifter knob anyone!

I have the bronze on now and am liking it! It's real handy taking machining classes and having extra time! Making a new shift knob for my TWM shorty, really needs that counterweight action!!

Nice...post some pics when you get it done. What material were you thinking? Brass?

My only other concern would be dissimilar metals (steel on the "sleeve" and the brass) getting bonded by way of a physical "rust" connection.

Not sure about that. I sprayed it with some seafoam lubricant spray, but not sure of long term wear yet.
