Does anyone else think the Mazda brakes suck. I even drive their "sports car" RX8 and even though it goes like hell, it also makes ungodly noise and shutters like a dog shitting a watermelon. I think drilled/ slotted rotors will cure this problem. Any thoughts and recommendations would be appreciated.

The brakes do suck. I got drilled/slotted rotors and they are brembos. I purchased them from a company in Texas. They were 220.00 with shipping, then just put in oem brake pads. Also, painted the calipers red.

ived got cross drilled and slotted on the fronts with hawk brake pads. made a decent difference but nothing too exciting.

Why would drilled/slotted rotors cure the problem?

if your brakes shudder that sounds like your abs or if the rx8 has ebd, one of those is activating. My 2002 ES has its stock brakes and they fricken rock, people get in my car and tap the brakes and nearly get thrown through the windsheild, and i have no problem with smooth fast stops.

i dont think they helped as much as the Hawk brake pads

I am also looking to improve the brakes.

You recommend the Hawk pads over the other brands? (I have a friend who swears by them for BMWs).

I USED to get brake shudder... Not anymore, but the cross-drilled rotors add a different feeling to the braking, as there's not as much consistant contact, anyway, which causes pulsation and loss of the 'grabbing' feeling. I don't get brake shudder so much, now, but I still have the pulsation caused by cross drilled rotors in the front, but the odd braking problems ended up stopping after I got stainless braided brake/clutch lines, Axxis Ceramic pads, and the 929 master cylinder swap... The car stops crazy fast, and really firmly now. =) Just wait 'till I get the four piston calipers from the RX7 on there. ;)

i cant honestly reccomend Hawk over anything other than stock because ive never used anything else.

I removed the ABS fuse. Couldn't stand how the ABS worked.

As long as I could lock up the brakes, I can modulate them to my liking.

The brakes [without ABS] are great for a car in this class and price range. It's classified as an "Economy Car" here in Canada. i.e. Focus, Elantra, Sentra....
