Brakes - After Market worth it?

About to do my first brake job on my Mazda 5 and I can't decided to stick to Mazda brakes or go with a brand like ATE. What has been your experience with non-mazda parts? Where can I get a deal in the Toronto Canada area on parts?

Thanks

Skip the FoMoCo parts and go aftermarket. I have had great results turning the stock rotors and using Centric Posi-Quiet ceramic pads.

I assume you have a first gen? If so, every single piece of your stock braking component is made by ATE. I do think Mazda change suppliers on the 2nd gen b/c I’m seem Akebono (lining) pads for stock replacements.

Whatever "brand" you decide to go with, make sure you $pay$ for what you need. You don't want race pads on a DD car or vice versa using And don't forget you are DUE for a full brake fluid flush, if you haven’t don't so already. Don't go cheap if you have the slightest bit of spirited driving intentions. Every manufacture offers a product at a different price point, you just need to find one that suite you wants:needs. Even Mazda offer a "value" vs. "standard" line of pads. Go to Tirerack.com and search for pads and pay mind to their rating.

The OEM pads on my 2012 were FoMoCo. Just replaced them with Akebono. Hoping for better performance and an end to premature brake judder. We shall see.

FYI: IT will be a near impossibility to find basic rotors (and even most slotted/drilled as well) that are NOT made from cheap subpar Chinese alloy. I needed to replace the Volvo's rotors and had to go with Centric High-Carbon rotors to get out of the worthless stuff. And I still really am not 100% sold that I don't have subpar Chinese weak crap. Just be careful out there. You can pay $90/rotor and have it be made by the same foundry that makes the $15 one.

I did powerstops front and rear at 82000; very happy with their fade resistance and stopping power. They are louder under braking but that's not a big deal to me.
