2007 Mazda 3 5 door
I have a 2007 mazda 3 touring 5 door and since I have had it i noticed that first thing thing in the morning when i put my car into reverse, i hear a squealing noise? it only happens when my car has been sitting for a while..is there something wrong with my brakes? thanks in advance..mike

Hey Mike,
I would guess probably not. You're in Hawaii where the humidity is high. After sitting there may be some rust on the rotors that needs to wear off. I get a similar noise whenever I've washed the car and not driven it right after.
If you're really worried about it, take it back to your dealer and see what they say.
Or, look here for a TSB: http://www.finishlineperformance.com/mazda3/bulletins_index.html
Here's something a little more specific that I found: http://www.finishlineperformance.com/mazda3/docs/0028.pdf
Or, this one: http://www.finishlineperformance.com/mazda3/docs/0008.pdf
These all seem to be for earlier cars, but you never know...
Good Luck!
Richard

i would say its just moisture that turned to rust... your pads wear the rust down in the first few braking events and you should be fine... happens to me all the time living in maine its wet all the damn time here...

Is there an echo in here?

Echo... echo... echo... echo.......... (lol)

Speaking for myself only... (Sorry tsunami, you're on your own here) that's because the rust is not always that visible. Sometimes the build up is just ahead of and behind the pad and not visible on the rotor from all angles.
It could also be caused by the e-Brake hardware/springs/cables that are rusted and not releasing as they should, in which case you're not liable to see the offending rust either.....
HA!! 'Thought you had me there, didtcha'? (lol)

eh why bother it goes away before i am 1 mile down the road it normally happens when i either leave my car parked for more then one day or it was extremely foggy or rained that night...

i know mine rusts overnight if it rains and its definatley visible on the whole rotor. although my friends put my new rear pads on and didn't use any caliper grease so they squeak all the time.

Now see? There I go making a joke and all you guys wanna do is be serious all the time. What fun is that?

well i hope so too then. i have the ebc green stuff pads sitting in the garage waiting to be broken in. Speaking of which did you make sure you follow the right break-in procedures for the pads? There is a specific painstaking process to break it in; and if not done properly they will have a very short life. Hope the squeaking is not coming from that.
