Brake Calipers - Pls Comment

I have read many forums about which caliper paint is better. I know that G2 and Foliatec is probably the best. However, considering the price, I want to know if the after effect is indeead superior to the cheaper brands like VHT and Duplicolor.

Therefore, pls comment on the subject:
1. Superior after effect of G2 and Foliatec?
2. Experiences with other brands (VHT, Duplicolor...)
3. For Duplicolor, Metalcast or HighHeat?
4. If you think you did a good job with the caliper, is there any specific reason why?

Thanks all

Can't tell you, but a tip that most people seem to agree on when putting the paint on is to try to brush it on if it's spray-spray the paint into a container first and then use a brush from that.

But paint is paint. I'm assuming that as long as it's high temp and you do a good job cleaning the caliper and applying good coats you should be fine.

I will be using the G2 paint whenever the weather's good enough on a weekend, so I'll see how that goes. I'm just worried that I'll run out of paint for all 4 calipers and have to scramble to get some of the same paint, which I imagine would be a pain without paying for the whole kit.

I think just as many people have had just as good results using krylon high temp paint as anything else.

Look at it this way:
You go spend $4 on paint, if it doesn't look good, you can always move up to the $30 paint.

I think the biggest tip I can give you, is jack up the car and take off the wheels.

I used Duplicolor High Heat about two months ago and I have yet to see a chip. For $4.95, it's the s***! I jacked one end of my car up, then did two wheels at a time. That way, by the time I was done with one wheel, the last one was dry already(about 15min). Back and forth, I put 4 or 5 coats on each caliper.

make sure you tape everything good if you going to spray paint. I used the $3-4 paint. The hightemp paint i found in pepboys. Tape everything well, cause u don't want to have hightemp paint on your bumper.

You know, if you go to any paint shops, they'll tell you that you can just use acrylic paint. Your brakes don't get as heated up as people think(unless you braking hella hard). I have acrylic on my calipers and haven't had a single problem. I know people that have had them on for over a year without having to touch up:cool:

It is all about the quality of the paint not the price. Lets say you but a cheaper paint, you may experience dulling of color or chipping or peeling. The best part about a better quality paint is that you wont even have to touch up again, in fact if you do it right your caliper almost looks like a new part. I have had people ask me how much my upgraded calipers were I just laugh and tell them the truth. I love how you can just spray your wheels and all the brake dust just falls off the caliper. Overall I m glad with the G2 caliper paint system.

Layzme-

I shelled out for the G2. It's shipping to me right now. If you want to wait and get a review from me I'd gladly give you the rundown. I've heard nothing but positive reviews on the product and decided it was worth it. We shall see......

If the paint quality is half as good as I hear then I'll be happy. Keep in mind the cost of the G2 products is for a kit that comes with cleaner and all the tools for the job. Although the tools for the job are cheap hardware store products the convinience is nice. Ultimately though you are paying for the highest quality temp resistant paint.

Exactly, just be sure to follow instructions good and in my opinion and experience let the paint and hardener sit for a few to thicken, at first it is all runny witch makes it harder to work with and then it gets thicker and thicker... I suggest putting the car on jack stands and take off all wheels, be sure to let dry at least overnight. Be sure not to paint any parts that move or rubber boots. Total job took me about 2 hours 2 coats each and paying extreme detail to the calipers.

Im glad you brought this subject up. Im also looking at quality and color. For those of you who have painted your brakes, do you have to consistantly clean the break dust off and if you went with a color that matches your car color, how hard is it to match?

I used VHT caliper paint

its been almost 2 years now (2 canadian winters):

no paint chips (despite rocksalt exposure)
no paint fade (its still as red as my car when washed)
oh yeah a good match of red (if you have a red car)

I did go above and beyond the instructions though...
4 coats per caliper (as opposed to 2) and I didn't drive for a day (they recommended a few hours to set in).

hey i remember seeing a place to buy this stuff online, but now i dont remember where it was... does anyone know?
