Brainstorm: Integra HIDs in a P5 housing

I've been a little dissatisfied with some of the HID posts i have been reading in the forum. It seems to me that we are able to get the proper ballasts and wattage, however, the projection is not true to a typical HID setup. Our headlamps were not originally engineered for such a setup.
Here's what i'm thinking:
I have 2 projector headlamps off of a '97 integra. These are integrated for the proper light distribution of a true HID unit (as far as i know). If i were to integrate these projectors into our existing headlamp housing, i could buy the HID kit made for the protege 5 and set it inside the projector housing. The outcome would be a true HID headlight.

As it says in the title, i am just brainstorming this idea. Does anybody have any feedback, suggestions, or even potential problems as to why this would not give me the outcome i'm looking for? I just love hopping into a (newer) car and seeing that definate purple outline of the headlights. I want that.

There are some headlight housings up for grabs in the for sale section here. My suggestion is to get some to experiment on so you can go back with the oems if it doesn't work out. BTW, you can't do this without posting up pics of the project & results, it's just not possible. LOL. Go for it!

get another set of headlights fo show even ifyou can find some off ebay. I have been thinking about this for a while as well but don't have the time or cash to do it. this is definetly a doable project, the only thing that may give you a problem is getting the projector housing at the correct angle so that the HID bulb can sit perfectly in the middle of the housing for optimal liht discharge

i was going to try something like this with a pair of self leveling HID's off of a Jaguar. but someone stole them from my buddies shop the day i was picking them up, so i didnt get the chance.

there is a guy on the nissan forum that makes them for older sentras using acura tsx projectors and makes good money off of them. so if you get good.....
but it can definitely be done, but making the housing look good i think will be the hardest part.

awesome! thanks for the feedback. i agree with you and feel that this is a very do-able project. Importcrazy, you have a very good point. i'll have to be very creative and patient with the install of the angle of the projector. Not only that, i have to make sure the housing is 100% sealed when i'm done with it. the last thing i want is water in my headlamps or even condensation. I will start brainstorming some ways of making the actual projector adjustable as it sits in the headlight housing.
Also, good call everyone on picking up an experimental set of headlights...i'll have to check around on prices and see if that's something i can do right now... if not, i may try the junkyards for some cracked housings for cheap. I just need some samples to work on. also, i wouldn't feel so bad if i messed something up. So, i might just try to pick up some aready-damaged or broken housings from a p5.
Thanks again for all your help and i will definately keep everyone updated. Also, feel free to throw more comments my way and let me what you all think.
Thanks everyone!
