bpv options...

If I was going bpv, I would definitly go with the forge unit

Since I wanted some noise, but keep reliability, I chose the turbo xs hybrid 50/50. A great looking, sounding, and performing unit.

Direct bolt on EXCEPT you need to remove the plastic clip on the front of the airbox... just so you know.

After reading a few of these threads I'm assuming the following...correct me if I'm wrong:

1. The Forge BPV sounds awful
2. Don't get a BOV no matter what it is because it causes idle problems?
3. A hybrid 50/50 (wow news to me, didnt know these existed) gets the nice sound you're looking for but will f'up the ECU because it thinks more air is there than really is?

I was going to start with the MSPD CAI because its warrentied, btw. But now I'm considering a SRI. If I can get 10-15 whp from an SRI I'm down.

Just get the HKS SSQV and be done with it... It simply bolts right up and you don't have to tune it with springs, sims, or whatever...

Its quiet like stock and performs perfectly...plus its good for up to 30PSI which we'll never see.

Went with the Forge......and I agree........the sound isn't horrible. With the windows up....its barely louder than stock with an MS CAI. However with the windows down.......there's certainly a noticable sound difference........but I kinda like it.

Forge went on last night....and so far I can't notice any difference in performance (although its raining so I can't really get on it). I'm running the blue spring with 1 shim......anyone know.......should i try a different setup?

I get a couple more PSI spike and maybe a LITTLE more boost in gears...could be other factors like weather or resetting ECU but that's what I've seen so far.

chhh PING!!! lol

I'm running blue I'm gonna go add a shim for fun

I'll give it a little more time.....and hopefully get some dryer weather here soon.

BTW......how do you like your TRZ poly MM?

In regards to the vacuum line connection on the Forge.....what have people done to get a tight fit (considering the Forge connection is smaller than stock)? My vacuum hose is a little loose on that fitting. I'm considering wrapping some electrical tape around that fitting to thicken it up a bit and make a tighter fit with the vacuum hose..........thoughts?

Could get some silicone hose...my old Turbosmart Hybrid came with some of that stuff.

BTW I took off the TRZ poly and have the corksport inserts back on, lol. I made some motor mount thread in the engine section if you wanna read more about how I like it

another one for the HKS SSQV!

Ok, here's the deal....All of the other units you have to "tune" and even if tuned right will most likely leak or flutter. The HKS does not need tuning. It does not leak, and will not leak unless you are pushing 30+lbs of boost. The secondary vents allow the engine to vent low boost pressures so you get no fluttering. The primary vent along with the secondary allows the engine to vent high boost pressure. Here's the deal. On for example, the forge unit, there is alot of talk of different "springs" to tune the unit. Too soft a spring will allow boost to leak, too stiff a spring will cause fluttering at low boost, not a big deal, but not really "good" either. The HKS unit one the other hand will not leak because of the design, it uses boost pressure to seal itself. With the HKS unit, you have the best of both worlds....without the headache of trying to figure out the best way to tune it. And VTA vs. Recirc....nevermind...that's another story...

I have a turboxs recirc on the table but no flange adapter. Trying to talk to forge. Anybody updrade IC pipes to sreet units' or another vendor's? stock are shot on mine, very soft.

All valves use boost to seal. Springs change the opening and closing characteristics and help prevent opening due to pressure loss from the boost seen on either side of the piston/diaphragm.

The outlet port on our valve is a hair smaller than the stock units, don't know if this was due to the stock valve we used to being an early production unit with slightly smaller ports or what but really all that is needed is to ditch the factory clamp and use a worm drive.

I'll see to it that our valves include these from now on.
