I love the sound of the bov... and I was disapointed when I found out you can barely hear the damn thing. I've talked to some people on TR and they say to smack a injen or aem intake on it and you will be able to hear it a lot better... is this a good idea?

do you have hard pipes, that will greatly help, along withthe intake, or are you referring to the stock By pass valve? the black valve between the IC and the intake? If so you will never hear a high "BOV" sound from it, but with a intake you will hear the turkey

what's TR. and an intake will just make the spooling of the turbo sound louder. stock PSI on MSPs isn't really enough to make a loud whoosh noise out of a bov.

the turboxs rfl is even louder no?

haha hells yea...I have an rfl and its so much fun and real loud. The best is driving through the highway underpass , it echoes off the walls nicely lol. Innocent bystanders walking to the beach freak out if i time it right when i drive by....edit: the stock bypass valve makes a fluttering ("turkey") noise when you install the injen cai etc..

lol, i had to ditch the rfl, the spring was to stiff .. had to back down to the type h , one notch below the rfl.. The rfl is really ******* loud, the turboxs type h is tolarable..

i dunno, i got sick of the sound of the bov within like 2 weeks. it's cool and exciting at first, but just got annoying later. cops used to pull me over for fun, so i didn't really enjoy alerting them of my presence.

I am kinda in the same boat as smoof with this, not really into the loud sound after a bit of having it. I have a Greddy type r or what ever the purple one that was good, not the blue RS one that sucks. but changes are happening hopefully this weekend.

I've had the Greddy type R and now I'm running the HKS racing bypass. Both of these valves are quiet, mostly I think because they are so big. I haven't had any issues with them but you will want to run a dual set up or relocated MAF because they can get rid of a lot of air.

Are you running VTA or Recirc? Do you have hardpipes? Dual setup with BPV and a BOV? A little mroe info and I am sure we can help make it louder :)

if you want a nice BOV with a little whistle to it and a nice Pshhhhhh! get a Greddy Type-S granted I'm only pushing 4 psi right now but it sounds so nice, and I'm sure it will sound even better when I up the boost to 6 PSI in a couple weeks.

btw this is with the MAF relocation and I haven't gotten any turkey since.

get hardpipes and a Turboxs type h bov, hehe, it can scare people its so loud..

not sure what a turbox is but I will look into it... as for hardpipes is that something I can install myself? the only realy mod I have ever done to an engine myself is an air intake so keep that in mind lol

TR is Tampa Racing... it's a popular website in florida... so you are saying that if i were to just switch out the air intake it wouldn't help much...

with an intake you will hear more noise from your stock bpv (which means bypass valve, which will only recirculate, which is different from a bov, blow off valve, which vents to atmosphere). It will be a cyclic sound though. Lots of people get 'the turkey', which sounds kinda like a turkey gobble. Its actually kinda bad for your turbo and can cause damage over long periods of time, but there are people that like that sound. When i installed my AEM intake, i didn't get turkey but did have sort of a quick cyclic whoosh sound. Its kinda hard to describe. Now with my Boost Sciences reflex diverter valve, and an SRI, i get a nice even whoosh, but not nearly as pronounced or high pitched as if i had a BOV. To have a bov you're probably going to need hardpipes.... that is, metal pipes to replace those black plastic pipes going to and from the intercooler. Also worth noting is that just having a BOV will lead to stalling.... you either need to move the MAF post-BOV so you're not loosing metered air out of your BOV, or you need to run both the BOV and the stock BPV.

hope that helps.

I don't know where your getting your info from but... I have installed my BOV (HKS SSQ) and CAI with no problems and both function properly with the stock pipes. Where do you get your info on having to run and install both the BOV and BPV. How is that even possible??? I guess it must be a different set up on the P5's.

My intake sounds more like pigeons rather than a turkey and is the intake really bad for the turbo? Why and how can I fix this?

AFAIK, theres no good way to attatch a conventional (hks, etc) BOV with the stock plastic piping. I could be wrong on that though, i'm no expert.... i'm used to hardpipes so i've never looked into attatching a BOV to the plastic pipes.

I do know however, that it is VERY common to run a dual setup on the proteges... (bov and bpv). I don't think the MS3s need to do that because i believe they have a MAP sensor?? Regardless, running a dual setup is a long proven way to eliminate stalling issues on the protege. Search and you will find COUNTLESS sources for info.

And koolers, the way it works is to simply have a pipe with 2 fittings, one for a BOV and one for a hose to run to a bpv, and you hook both of them up. You don't need to relocate your MAF if you do this. Relocating the MAF is a method to avoid stalling if you DON'T have a dual setup.
