BOV; Stalling issue workaround

Video2- Engine Bay view; No stall (1.3MB WMV)

People;

We all know that on most cases venting to the atmosphere the engine will completely stall or will have problems stabilizing the idle.

Some people have a workaround by just adjusting the way of driving or adjusting the BOV spring tighter. With the BOV tighter, the venting will not be so friendly for the turbo, and the BOV will be quieter.

Well...I have been doing some stuff on the car and found that, opening the TB to maximum (the idle rpms setting) will alleviate the stall. I have not had a stall for 2 months and I adjusted the BOV to the softer possible, and it vents a lot of air, A LOT, and it doesnt stall at all.

The only things is that you will notice that your vacuum readings are ~18/14 depending on the engine temperature, and the car idles are ~800-900.

Does anyone wants to test this too? or is this just old news and I figured this out by myself too late?

You opened the butterfly?

I messed around with this a bit in the beginning, but have just changed my driving habits to prevent it. I'm curious and might give it a try if you can "show" or better tell me what you did. I think I know, but I'm not 100% positive.

I'm also working on a different solution. . .I'll let everyone know when it is resolved. Otherwise, good work man.

No, just a small adjustment.

Theres an adjustment screw right on the side of the butterfly. You can reach it easily. Just turn the screw all the way counter-clock-wise.
If not...its is clockwise :D
I can take pics if you want...but its there...

check if this helps
the only pic I have now, is from my second engine, i hope you can get a good perspective of it...

All you need is a screwdriver, flat or the "+", both do fine

holy crap... i've been asking "what if i move the maf to after the bov?" for like months upon months now. NO ONE has answered me. i wanna move the maf after the bov... somewhere close to the throttle body. i was wondering if this would have adverse effects on my car.

I dont know..this seems way too simple of a fix to actually work, there must be some reason why none of the turbo manufacturers have done this..

I personally like the way my car acts with the recirculating valve..The turbo stays well spooled through shifts, and it is still very noticable to the ear...

I know in the past alot of people have played with the idle screw idea(1st Mp3 comes immediately to mind), can you guys vouch that it is a long term fix?

It works that way, the only problem is; we dont know how much pressure the MAF hold without first breaking apart or leak.
And you know what happens if you brake it.

It works Ive seen it, tested before and after the BOV, it works better AFTER the BOV.
This picture shows it before the BOV, just for testing....it holds 11psi but was only tested on the track, not a daily routine.

So will adjusting the idle cure the stalling problem on every car?

Thats why I need testers, I only have one car, hopfully Little Beavis is going to try this too.

I would love to help out but I still have the stock bypass valve and whether or not our car can have open vent or not will determine which bov i'll get.

I tried running the MAF in the charge pipe and the car did not like it....actually most MAFs dont like boost. Give it a shot but I doubt it will work

so spool, you dont think messing with TB will help? or you mean movin bov right before maf?...

holy mother!!! it works!!!! i messed with it today since i finally got car running, igdrasil thanks for the idea(thumb)(bow) (bow) (bow)

I solved my stalling the first time by moving the MAF further from the turbo. No more stalling.

Now I bought a Microtech, and I no longer need the MAF:D
