BOV Question

Question?????

I have a fmic with a turbo xs bov.(dont know which one but it looks like the rfl without the horn) Anyways, since Ive had it my idle has just sucked. Ive been looking at the pics of the dual valve setup and plan on trying it. I went to the shop that did my fmic and he said he could recirc the turbo xs valve. The question is "will my gobble come back if he does it that way" Or should I try the dual setup.

If you don't have a gobble with it vented, recirculating it won't bring it back.

Actually, if anything, it would prevent it even more since air is coming back through and pushing the wheel in the right direction.

edit: won't be as loud though, of course.

Yeah he told me that it will be better if it recircs. But this bov has washers in it and as of right now it only gobbles if I shift below 3k

prolly cause you're not building enough boost to give a clean blow off. the washers are there to control the amount of force needed to open the valve. lower boost = less pressure = unsteady valve opening. you might wanna try taking a washer out and see if that helps. but in any case, i don't think you're pushing enough boost to cause major damage.

Well let me ask you this, I bought this valve the first week I had the car. But it was running in place of the factory. Back then it had no washers. If I have it recirc am I still gonna need the washers in there.

Is the problem the idle or the gobble. . .I'm confused, but I'm not getting much sleep these days, so it is probably just me.

If you are idling bad, then the BOV is likely too loose, which means that you are leaking at idle and it is sucking in unmetered air. This will be "fixed" by recirculating, because anything it sucks in will already be metered.

Now if it gobbles, then you need to loosen it up or find a better vacuum signal for the line. Often a "poor" signal (which will read fine on a vacuum gauge and such) will cause the valve to not open as quickly as you like, thus a gobble. This can be changed by the vacuum signal or loosening up the BOV so that it works with the "bad" signal.

Make sense? Or am I rambling again?

Makes sense but, at this moment my bov as 7 washers in it. If I add a washer it idles fine but doesnt open. If I use six washers it wont idle. The problem is the idle. Its fine till I let off the gas. It dies at every stop light. I do however have decicated lines. As a matter a fact I thought that was the problem so I replaced all the lines. Its the bov. Its opening a idle.

make sure you don't have any leaks anywhere else. then you'll know for sure if it's the bov or not. if it is the bov, there's not much you can do...guess just run it with enough washers to keep it from stalling....if you get a slight turkey, i don't think you'll hurt anything.

Its not that its opening at idle, its vented atmospherically, and causes the car to stall when the revs drop, such as stopping at a light, etc.
I drove the car last night, and it stalled on me just about everytime. I could keep it running by blipping the throttle right before it would stall.
A dual BOV setup would be the best bet to keep it from stalling, or maybe the HKS BOV like mine. My car idles perfectly, and rarely if ever stalls, and i have to try to make it stall before it will.

Getting dual setup installed on monday. Still confused on how it works but he said he could do it so will see. But im so sick of this s***. It stalls at every light.

holy mutha! 7 WASHERS!!! i have 3 installed......7 washers will need alot of pressure to open up.....what psi are you runnin?

atmospheric bov's stall recerculate it and you'll be ok
asfor the washers 7 is a lot,I only have 3 in my turbo excuse type-s bov(the blue one)

10psi, do you think I might have a vac problem
i say take 4 washers out and try that...

so does your idle bounce or is it low...when i put my fmic on, my idle dropped heh i just raised it a bit.

Quick silly question. Anyone have a clip or is there a site I can get sounds of a recirculated BOV????? From a Mazdaspeed of course. There's sites with WRX and other cars with circulated BOV, but I wanted to hear what the MSP sounded like. So, if anyone can record their BOV that'd be great. I want to make sure it's worth buying...........do you even hear anything at all with an aftermarket BOV? My neighbors got a WRX and an STi....they both installed BOVs and they sound amazing.....I can hear them shifting when I'm inside my house. I know I won't get that much of a PSSSHHHH from the MSP recirculated...but will I get at least a psstt......something.....??

Theres a few sound clips floating around on the board, i know i listened to one of an HKS, and i think a few others. It might take a little while to find it.
As far as the atmospheric BOV causing the stall, I have an atmospheric HKS, and i rarely if ever stall. It catches it about 95% of the time, and it only has a problem coming down fast from 5500+. The car might WANT to stall, but it wont.
With a recirc system, and an open element filter, such as a K&N, etc, then you WILL be able to hear the BPV. It wont be as loud as a open atmosphere, but its still loud enough to hear. :)

P.S. Love the sig pic. :)

It idles low and bounces Discreet. I put another washer and it seems to be fine, but I think im still gonna do the dual setup.
