BOV Question

yes and no....when i bought my msp from the dealership, i talked to one of the techs and there were a few things he pointed out to me....the hoses connections to the bov are clamped with 'tamper-proof' clamps....you disconnect thoses and wave bye bye to the warranty. however, the connections to the intercooler piping and the intake are just regular clamps. if you don't wanna risk the warranty, i posted earlier about a flange that 8vturbo makes for the greddy type-s and hks ssqv bovs that allows you to run a hose to the intake of the bov rather than welding it. so just take off the stock bov and get some hoses and put on the new one....just don't remove those 'tamper-proof' clamps =)

I am/do, I have been running Apexi BOV that vents to the ATM for about 4 months now. At first my idle was crap and the car would stall if I dont give a lot of extra gas when shifting. But that was fixed after reinstalling the valve.

Yeah my Spec R brother lol! sorry

ok i am confused as hell about this whole bov thing. I really dont know y i am. OK on RX-Kevins the bov is horizontal correct? But your sayin removing the "tamper proof" locks on it, will void the warranty.

So did RX-Kevin re hose the BOV?
and also isnt the stock BOV sit right next to the cam cover??

Sorry to be stupid about this but i am learning :D

ok looks like rx-kevin got a custom flange made for his bov. yes, he voided his warranty....from my understanding, as soon as you do anything to the intercooler piping, you void the warranty. if you wanna find the stock bov, locate your air box and follow the intake tube towards the throttle. you'll see a hose running from the intake tubing through a small circular thingy (that's the bov) and then to the intercooler piping.

(((mspeedpro))) yes that is my exact model. It would take quit some modification to put it on. The hardest part of the setup would be fabing the piping to fit. The bumper re-bar had to be notched. It sounds too nice:) I only had it back 2 days after mods before someone broke into my car. So I don't have a current vid with the new stuff yet. They barely got the parts for the car at the shop and it's been about a month.

my s*** was expensive. aluminum piping, flange, spearco i/c, turbonetics t-bolt clamps, turbonetics silicon hoses, aluminum mounts, the list goes on.

I believe rxkevin did all his stuff by himself in a cost effective way. if you like his stuff then maybe he'll hook you up.

is anybody recirculating the hks ssqv? was wondering what kind of a sound people were getting with that setup

RECIRC

I had mine recirculated to see what it sounded like and to avoid the supposed stalling issue. Well it still stalled because the same mistake was made just like the first try on the injen cai. So I wanted to vent and bov and got the same stalling. Now to the sound. With it vented it sounds like MY ASS. It sounds like a stock blow off but with a lot of force and a little turkey/pigeon in it. Really though, it's bad as hell. The piece that makes the noise on the ssq at the end has to be removed to put the fitting for the recirc. hose. Can't have the best of both worlds I guess.

some options are (for the hks ssq I guess):
*recirc. bov correctly & have broke ass sound w/ no stalling
*(on a budget) vent bov and learn to avoid stalling :)
*(have some xtra$) vent bov and buy hks super afr unit with built in cpu for around $219
*(on a budget) vent bov and up the idle and that should work. but that kinda sucks.

well that kinda sucks. i was hoping it'd just sound a little muffled. maybe i'll just go with the greddy type-s and save myself a little money. though i do like the fact that the hks won't leak. ahhh, decisions decisions....

Or you could get the Apexi and toy around with the valve to get the sound you like. Mine is almost silent until i reach full boost (11psi now) then it turns evil. Sorry i just love this setup. I highly recommend it. Only neg is that it is quite large compared to other Blow off/bypass valves.

I_am_Chris.... long time no se....uhh i mean talk ;) How are your installs going. You get a chance to hook up your E-manage yet? If so details it is killing me I really want to see how well it works with our car. Oh and I love my Spec-R but not as much as my MSP!

the apexi one sounds like the ones in Initial D (thumb) but i don't think it's for me. thanks for the advice though. much appreciated :D

yeah I did all of my own installs and yes it's cost effective. I have a less is more approach, I don't really feel like going broke (in my situation) to make my car better, after all it is a 20,000 dollar car. I am 19 with 3 cars on my own insurance policy, plus I pay for the car myself. $$$$$$$. as far as the warranty is concerned if something breaks with the mods I am runing then that is a perfect time to upgrade broken parts and eliminate it from happening again (finding the weekest link)

as far as the i/c piping and voiding my warranty goes
1 I voided my warranty around 200 miles
2 when I first got the car I broke the cheap plastic i/c piping by trying to remove the bypass valve from the intake tube (trying to open vent the stock s*** !experiment! ) so I have another one (brand new) since I am a tech I just tell the service writer to make up a RO (repair order) and then I order the part.
I recently ordered new sway bushings (clunk)

custom piping for the bov? i assume you mean a custom metal pipe to weld the flange for the bov onto. yes this voids the warranty (see my previous post...on this thread).

don't forget the "search" option. i learned a lot from this :D

i think the best bet for those of us who want the awesome sound of a bov but whose warranties have us by the balls.... the injen intake might do the trick. it would definitly nmake our stock BOV and turbo a lot louder, a LOT louder actaully. a dealership wont void my warranty b/c of CAI
