BOV Loss of Power Help

Hi All,

I just bought a Turbosmart BOV Dual Port and installed it myself. Whilst driving I feel I have had a loss in power.
Any ideas of whether to have the spring tension on hard or soft? Or is it just me being paranoid?

While I can't really help you with the question, I like that you used the word "whilst".

Actually, did you make sure to use the gasket that came with it? the thin papery thing. If you didn't that could cause a small leak.

Hey Bro,

YES, what your feeling is like the car lost power between shifts right? if your running the unit on 50/50 then your feelings are correct! My car fell like it ran slower with it in 50/50 mode, but once you put it back to full recirc mode and reset your ecu you will be back happy with power and response I assure you.!

im new to all this, when u say 50/50 your saying it is atmospheric??

How would i reset the ECU?

on the Turbosmart BOV you can have it go 50% recirc and 50% atmospheric when you have the horn installed...what I'm suggesting is you take the horn off and put on the blanking plug and reset your ecu....*by disconnecting the negative battery terminal and then turning the key to the on position and depress the brake a few times then let it sit for 15 mins, then reattach the battery and don't go flooring the car, give it a few days of easy driving for the ECU to relearn then your golden.

try upping the spring tension it may hold boost better. i've noticed on my forge if i go softer than the blue spring it feels like it not holding boost or spiking as high.

Run it full recirc. This engine NEEDS full recirc to operate properly.

untrue, unless you are speaking specifically about the turbosmart valve. i've had my turboxs hybrid valve since early 2008 without issue. i can't comment on the turbosmart piece however the turboxs hybrid valve works as advertised. my car drives perfectly, always has.

So farting part of your already metered and fuel matched air out of the intake to atmosphere so it never gets to mix with the precisely metered fuel expecting that air is a good thing? This makes your car run perfectly?

Do you think that statement would be validated at the dragstrip comparing runs between 50-50 and full recirc?

Wanna bet?

Anything less than full recirc on a MAF sensor controlled ECU engine will produce a mismatched air to fuel ratio and a corresponding detuning of the engine as the ECU chases and tries to correct the errors it is seeing. You end up with either a crappy running engine or a detuned engine with less power due to the pull back on fuel to compensate for the lost air.

this certainly isn't up for debate. i CAN'T argue about it. my car does run perfectly. never ever hiccups, produces a curve and numbers that are more than comparable to other similarly equipped MS3 at the same exact dyno location...and runs comparable 1/4 mile times and trap speeds when taking into account overall vehicle weight and 60 foot times. some might consider all of that arbitrary but when it comes to a real world decision of whether the car is running well or not, you, me or anyone else does not have anything better on which to base a decision. sorry it doesn't jive with your hypothesis and final decision. i don't know what you want me to say. it is readily apparent that there is enough of a window there within this car's ECU where whatever amount is released by the turboxs hybrid valve does not disturb the driveability or power in any detectable or usefully measureable manner.

if the valve i have, for any reason, caused some sort of loss of performance it would have been removed a long time ago. i know the valve won't leak and i know the valve makes a cool sound, all without leaching any power or driveability.
