BOV flutter

OK i need some help here. Me and a buddy just installed the cobb sri and i already had on a knock off ebay type s bov. Now before the intake i didnt notice any flutter but then again the bov wasnt the loudest either. With the intake i first noticed the flutter under WOT and not normal driving conditions. So i tried screwing in the top screw further and also unscrewing it some but nothing has changed. I can also notice it fluttering when going up a hill and i have to give it more gas all the way up. Any help would be apreciated guys!

do youself a favor - take that pos off your car and toss it in the trash - spend a few dollars and buy a decent hks w/a kit, turbosmart, cobb, or forge - until then just run the stock
i sounds like it's opening when it should be keeping boost in which would indicate that the spring is too loose or opens to easy - you may be able to get it to keep boost in if you tighten it, but my first suggestion is the best....

im also selling my HKS full bolt on kit for $200, black edition ssqv confirmed genuine by hks, i dont think any of us mean to threadjack and press our stuff on you, lol, but the guy above is right, your first mistake is buying a knockoff BOV for this car. its a brand new car essentially and with a factory turbo system like ours you dont want to run knockoff anything. it might not be holding boost correctly or it might just be shitting out on you altogether.

well i already had the bov, i just had to get the adapter plate so i figured why not put it to use instead of it sitting around. Im getting ready to buy a boost gauge to make sure im holding good boost and i dont mind your opinions, thats why i asked and more than likely will end up buying the forge since its cheap.

Absolutely, this cheapie BOV could turn out to work as well or better than name brands once adjusted correctly. A boost gauge will be nice; I just got one and haven't installed it yet! Just for peace of mind, I would rather have a piece backed by a name brand and quality if I was buying new. Since you already had it, I don't see a problem with experimenting. That is how new parts get made and the aftermarket for our cars can grow! Good luck, but also be careful and don't say we didn't warn ya! LOL ;)

After re-reading your first post--check again to make sure that tightening it or loosening it doesn't change anything, especially once you have a boost gauge. If nothing happens, the BOV may not work properly and you will need to throw on the stocker or buy a different one. I would be cautious of running your car with it doing weird stuff. Again, good luck! Keep us posted!

Once i set my mind to a good looking boost gauge then i will pick it and the gauge pod up so i can finally monitor the boost, i do have an ultragauge but doesnt help with checking boost. I think what i will do in the mean time is remove one of the springs in the bov. I have read somewhere that this bov has a weaker small spring inside it that can be taken out, only problem with that is i couldnt get the top off of the bov before i put it on the car so im hoping since it has been put to use it will come off now.

Excellent advice above about monitoring. Get a boost gauge and look and see what is actually happening. In the interim, put the stock BPV back on and compare. Maybe you can adjust the knock off valve properly, but you need that gauge. Heck, if you can't make up your mind about what you want to put in the gauge pod, at least go and get a cheap mechanical gauge from an auto parts store (Autozone, Advanced Auto, Pep Boys, etc.) while you are figuring out what you want to mount.

BTW: I am of the opinion that the stock BPV happens to be optimized for our engine. I can't make mine leak, it releases properly and has caused absolutely zero issues with my mods listed below, and I am now approaching 47,000 miles. It holds my Hypertech tune and catless downipipe/rp target boost extremely well. Target for me is initial boost in the 19-20 psi range, with a very gradual taper to 16-17 psi at 5,800 rpm, where I shift. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, IMHO.

thanks again msms3, i believe you have helped me before as well. So now change the spring today hopefully after basketball and see how it is and still nothing go back to stocker.

^^^ excellent advice as well, I'm so close to just sticking my stocker back on and seeing if it will fix that part boost issue I had (you've commented on that thread MSMS3) but haven't gotten around to it.

I'm also one of those guys who likes the sound of the aftermarket units.. which is why I'm trying to sell my HKS and get a Turbosmart instead. Oi.

anybody have a reccommendation on a good boost gauge that isnt crazy expensive

Ok as an update, still havent messed with the bov because it was pretty dark after basketball last night but i did finally buy a boost gauge. I bought one off of glowshift, it is a boost and air fuel gauge as one and was $60 and i bought the single gauge pod that sits on the defrost from blockhead on here.

Just got done listening to some true compressor surge on cars and some bov flutter and mine is definetly bov flutter. I do need to correct something, my first post i said that i have flutter under wot, i meant like in between shifting while getting on it so it wasnt doing it while i was on the gas. After hearing these things i think i will still mess with the spring tho in the bov.
