By using the bypass valve, you create a contriction in the intake flow, which counteracts most of the benefits of the CAI in the first place...so If you're scared of water, or you're judgement around large pools or water....SRI is the only choice...Or put a snorkel on the damn thing like a proper Jeep..

Sounds like me. Same kind of reasoning makes you forgo the "luxuries" in your backpack (tent, etc.) so you can cram a whole 12-pack in there. (rockon) I'm looking forward to taking my 5 to lots of dirt roads and campsites this summer. I would have probably done the same. Anyway, good luck and I hope you get this sorted out!

x2, must have been going rally car style. We have potholes deeper than that in downtown Seattle

omg.. sorry to hear that.. iv been to ashville once, on the longest beer run EVER while while at deals gap many years ago..lol nice drive.. glad to hear insurance will cover that.. also, when camping and what not, swap the intake over to a short ram.. basicly so the filter stays at the top of the engine bay.. : )

Update

The insurance company is gonna pay, despite the CAI. I'm kinda surprised, but I'll take it.

My mechanic has ordered a motor with 85k on it from a broker he uses in GA, and it will come with a 6 month warranty. He told me that he'll do anything I want while he's in there and charge the labor to the insurance co.

I'm thinking;

Motor mounts- Kinda confused on this one. Stock are crazy expensive and seem to have durability issues, but the aftermarket ones seem to transmit a lot of vibration. Any suggestions on what route to take here for a DD car with a baby?

Timing belt and tensioner
Replace EGR valve/gasket
Replace clutch- Exedy stock from PG
Drive belts- Gatorback
Thermostat
Go back to stock intake- anyone wanna K&N Typhoon CAI?

Other suggestions while he's in there. No turbos!

Motor mounts FTW!! Yeah, they will transmit more vibes, but, it is worth it in my honost opinion. Just keep it at a 70 duro. You don't need any harder for daily use.

For other options, are you wanting a noiser exhaust w/ more power? Rather than EGR and others, I'd go with a header if so.

when I see a "cash influx" lol. 2/3 of the way there, and have been for well over a year. No progress has been made though unfortunately. Trying to get it done this summer, but if history is any indication, that might not happen. I may decide to sell my gt28rs, pick up a t25, go with an msp ecu and call it a day. A slow, disappointing day, but at least I'll finally be done?

Anyways, to counter-act my thread-jacking, I'll just say that while you have the motor out, definitely do all your motor mounts. If you're considering an UDP, I would steer clear... just from my own experience. Clutch is a good idea too. That said, best of luck with the new motor!
