Boosting a 93 mx6

Over the summer i started to buy parts to turbo my mx6, i started to put the stuff on in the middle of december. Since then i have gotten most of the stuff on, im finishing everything up right now. All i have left is intercooler piping, megasquirt, and putting the bumper and hood back on.

First thing i did was move the battery to the trunk

Then i installed the Cosmo Racing AFPR

Installed the Walbro 255 lph fuel pump

the hotpipes and downpipes were gandarilla's old setup. He put out over 400 whp on these. These were supposed to be the ones where you dont have to mod the downpipe or crossmembers, but thats not true neither of the crossmembers fit. When he shipped them he had to cut the downpipe in half to get it to fit in the box so when i got it welded back together something could have gotten messed up but i dont know

Pulling it into the shop, installed the intercooler too

my oil feed got messed up so i had to get a new one. But i did get it started with my leaking one. This was the first time we got it started after getting everything on.

this is what happened when i drove it for the first time

dont have any more pics of the stuff i have done since then but i got a new oil feed, its not smoking very bad anymore, just a little at idle.

The downpipe needs to get fixed its about 1.5" off the ground so i have trouble clearing a lot of things.

Megasquirt is most likely going in this weekend, i would do it during the week but school has most of my time tied up.

Ill update this once i get more pictures and stuff. Tell me what yall think

looks sweet how much boost are you planning on running? why install the rrfpr if you are going to use MS? or is just for now kinda thing?

GuitarDude, it looks awesome!! I am picking up my XM-6 project this weekend. Mileage unknown, but its a 2.5 KLDE with 5 speed. Needs tons of new parts but most are in the trunk. I am gonna boost it for sure.

Debating whether or not I want to buy the J-spec KLZE, but heard it doesn't do well under boost, so I might build an engine. Never built a motor, but a few buddies of mine are behind me.

I'm anxiously waiting to see how yours turns out!!

It's also gonna be nice to talk to someone who knows how to tune a megasquirt, I've never tried and I'm a little bit anxious about that. Heard it's easy though, just like a standback

The KLZE is fine under low boost, but since the compression is higher than with a DE you will want to keep the boost pretty low, staying under 6 psi is a good safe bet. Im only running 6 on my DE but ill turn it up to 10 or so if i really want to.

As far as my car goes, its most likely gonna be finished tomorrow.

Only things left are megasquirt and finishing the intercooler piping

Was that a typo?

KLZE has a 10:1 compression ratio
KLDE has a 9.2:1 compression ratio

The pics posted show a KLDE engine, so if you are running stock internals a boost of about 6-7psi should be fine to ensure longevity of the engine. If you want to go much higher you'll need to replace the internals.

thats what i said, i was saying for him if he planned on boosting a ze to keep the boost low to compensate for the higher compression.

Im actually selling the car though, time to move onto different things.

It looks like a nice car, hope it goes to a good home. I'm sticking with NA for mine, but then I do have a Jspec with KLZE to start from.
