Boost reading issue...

2003 Yellow MSP
Yo. I just installed my Injen CAI and the Turbohoses Hardpiping kit with break booster tap a I love it. I've also installed a 2.5" custom cat-back exhaust system. I've always wanted the turkey. It gives the MSP it's persona. Also, since the installation, my car pulls like hell. But I have a question. After the installation, my car isn't reading at the same amount of boost. I had it set to 8psi and now it's reading between 11psi and 12psi. Could someone tell me why would that be? Is it dangerous?

I think (I am new but learning ) that you are not looseing as much boost now that you have hardpipes. From what I hear 12 is getting real dangerous ! Stay at 10 psi from what I hear !

Im going out on a limb here and say yes 12 psi is alittle dangerous. Are you getting 12-11 psi through out the rpm range? What boost controller are you using? I wont get on it until you find out the problem!

I'm using the TurboX's MBC. But it only starting reading that much boost after I installed the piping. Also, it only reads between 11 and 12psi when I am at full throttle. So I will turn the boost down to about 10psi. Thanks guys.

Yup...turn it down a bit. With the Hard Pipes and the 2.5" exhaust your air is flowing better thus upping the boost on it's own.

When stock I was 5psi, with my mods I am up to 6.5 without a boost controller.

Just to inform you that 10 psi isnt bullet proof either. Thats what I blew mine at. Hope that helps and good luck

12psi is too high, turn it down to 9 or 10.... stock, i'm running 6psi, after a few mods (especially a tbe), boost pressure sure increase naturally. i don't think an electronic boost controller is necessary on this car, unless it's to control boost spiking issues. i think getting an AFC is much better choice for the money spent.

the name of the brand is the DSM AFC. The maker is DSMConvert. Search "DSM AFC" and you'll have your answer.

Well, I thank everyone for the advice and information. I have another question though. What can I do to the engine so I can be able to run 12psi safely?

No I drove for about a year with 10psi daily. I would if you havent already try to get forged internals asap if your planning on running 12 psi daily. I went forged and Im still chicken shhit to try and run 12 psi.

it all depends on what other mods you have. speed1016 i dont see any exhaust mods in your sig, if you dont have any and you ran 10psi then I think thats why the motor popped more than likely. With full exhaust and 93+ octane I would run 10ish psi spike to 8-9psi at redline. If you get an upgraded intercooler and AFC, maybe a 12psi spike and 9-10 at redline. Thats where I have mine right now and it is hella fast for stock motor. Im no blkzoomzoom but it goes nice enough to spank wrxs and keep up with my buddies 13.x sec civic type R hatch, so i am pretty happy with it.

Technically the name of the brand is Airflow Logisitics, and the product is actually a configured and resold Split Second AFC, sold by DSMconvert, who most people just call DSM. So yeah, I could see how that might be confusing.

another importnat thing to remember is, the motors will break when under sustained loads. EX: the more load you are putting on the car, the more of a chance it has of failing. I do not boost high in 5th gear(let off around 8psi) or in 3-5 going up steep hills and it might be one of the reasons my motor has lasted at higher boost longer than others with facory internals. do a search and you can watch a guys motor pop while he video tapes his gauges etc. going uphill in 5th boosting 10+psi. kaboom

ass.

At the time mine blew I only had 2.5 apex down pipe. Now Im running a crap job custom downpipe and a catless catback. Both 3 in. I just didnt list it because its a really crappy job,but it helps.
