Boost help!!!!

He hardly ever pushes the motor hard on his cars. He just wants something that on the rare occasion he puts his foot to the floor, it'll put a smile on his face. Wideband is def something I will make sure he gets. That's usually one of the first upgrades I do on my cars. As far as checking the wastegate I'll test it first thing tomorrow. Again can't thank you enough for you help. This is a completely new platform for me so I'm still trying to learn as much as I can. The exhaust manifold and new turbo were just bolted back on the motor last Friday. I cant smell any exhuast under the hood so I'm pretty sure it's not leaking.

He threw a rod at 27k miles? The boost gauge still doesn't read at all? Was he driving it blind with the boost gauge not functioning but still trying to tune with the MBC and overboosted and blew it up? Did the WGA arm stick and overboost and blow it up? I am confused.

He was running completely stock with no gauge or MBC. Apparently the turbo started leaking oil really bad while he was driving on the interstate. No oil in the motor equals thrown rod and hole in the block. We weren't tuning or doing anything to the car. It was his DD.

Too much boost and running too lean can cause a rod to snap and go through the block, but being low on oil while cruising down the highway wouldn't blow the motor up like that. If anything it would seize up.

Ok, So I just went ahead and re-did the gauge fittings and everything for the boost gauge. It seems to be working correctly now. The car hits about 5.5-6 pounds of boost consistently. I just want to thank everyone for their input and info. He told me to start looking of intake, exhaust for now. And I'm going to research which would be a better option, either an upgraded side mount or full front mount, since he only wants to run a max of 10 pounds of boost. Thanks again everyone!

+1 on ebay FMIC kit, there is a bad ass one with a black core for cheap on ebay (links are in the ebay FMIC thread). I would get an SSAFC and FMIC first and make an SRI with the leftover piping, then upgrade the exhaust.
