Boost Gauge Install

Cool....I'd get rid of the clear tubing that came with the gauge and get some vacuum hose to replace it. Will save you from some problems later on if/when it cracks.

Whats the compression on the MS6?

And yeah I agree time to up the boost and see what it will do!
could go with copper tubing too, then you never have to worry about it cracking

Not weird, You ever see a race car? Or the hood mounted factory tach's in the 70's?

But......won't work with this gauge anyway......

I've seen several race cars, but never with the gauges mounted on the outside. That just seems like a huge chunk of drag in the airstream.

Boost gauges have absolutely no need to be outside. The fuel pressure gauges used to be placed on the drivers side of the hood because until recently the only gauges available required a fuel line to be run to the gauge itself, and it is against all circuit rules to run fuel through the cabin of the vehicle. Now they use electronic sensors to map fuel pressure, so they can now be on the interior of the car. A friend of mine used to be a pro-mod drag racer for the NHRA.

hood mounts are good for mechanical cause I wouldn't wand fuel and oil inside the cabin with me ;) You would need a cowl hood to complement that if thats your taste. Not shure if the *windshield would deflect enough air to the TMIC on a triditional cowl setup to be wort the try.

Why, do you your gauges not have remote sensors? My gauges are internal, have wires running through the firewall to the actual sensors. I didn't realize they still made gauges that had the fluids running to them anymore...

I was "Just saying..." don't beleve anyone here has that setup ;)

They still make them, but no one buys them anymore. They're old technology and insufficiant for modern applications. They are mostly used now-a-days for go-karts, dune-buggies, ect...

I completed the boost gauge install today.

Not really all that bad.

Had to mount it on the steering column, no other place to put it.

Every other place that came to mind had an air bag in it. :)

Gauge Setup and Installed

It really does not block that much of the dash, just looks that way in the pic.

Boost tube was put threw the firewall where the main wiring bunch went threw.

Bypass valve hose was unplugged and T connector was used like this.

Small piece of tubing was used to connect back to the manifold, no hose cutting was done.

Finished hooking up the lights for the gauge and that was it.

Took all of 45 minutes.

What did you use as a power source for the gauge and gauge light (where and what wires)? Thanks in advance.

I tapped into the fuse that is used for the cig. lighter for the power and then found a grounding screw under the dash for the ground.

You can find the fuse taps at your local auto parts store.

Thanks for the info. Where did you connect power for the backlight of the gauge?

I only needed to use power for the backlight.

No other power was needed for the gauge that I used. The gauge isa mechanical type.

Followed your lead and installed a boost guage this weekend. Also an Autometer (ultra-lite) gauge. Took me alot longer than 45 minutes though. I spent over an hour trying to figure out how to get the plastic tube through the firewall. Good instructions though - no way I would have even attempted that w/out those pics.

copper tube is much easier to run through the fire wall than the nylon tubes

well i nominate you to write up a how-to on how you did that, because the ricey steering column mount until top psi makes their vent holder, is getting old and pretty queer haha
