Boost controllers?

Didnt see any stickies, or threads about this so I thought I would ask before I did something stupid, I want to get a boost controller, but I dont know where to find one and which ones are good, also what is the highest boost you can run on the factory turbo without putting it in danger?

I think 18 psi is the max everyone seems to agree on. Alot of people are running Turbosmart boost controllers.

18 huh? and stock they are about 15.6 right?

Stock is right around 15.5psi or so (+/- 1psi variance). The K04 is really stretching its efficiency at about 20psi.

EDIT: I'm spiking at 21.6-21.8psi and holding 20.6-20.9psi using the Stage2 93 +TMIC AP map.

There's a full wikipedia article about it. I do not have any experience with boost controllers so that's where I'll be learning about them. It appears that they work by manipulating how much boost is passing through the wastegate.

I'm quite certain that if you don't know what you're doing with it (like me) that you could probably destroy your engine with extreme ease using one of these. Just judging from how it operates, it increases your boost levels without compensating for that with any other factors. My recommendation would be to go for an engine management program like the Cobb AP or the CP-E Standback2 instead of this.

EDIT: Just so you know what other factors I'm talking about: increased fuel delivery, advanced timing, and the like. I would imagine just turning the boost up will probably cause you to knock like crazy in a lot of cases. Knock = bad.
