Boost Adjustment??

I just had my MSP's turbo and exhaust manifold replaced under warranty. It now only will boost to around 6psi max between 3500 -4500 rpm then falls back to 5psi till redline. It also has developed a surge under acceleration, especially in 3rd gear from around 2500rpm up. It seems to surge around 3 times from 2500 to 6500. First question- how or can I adjust the boost back to around 6.9psi without affecting warranty? Second question- How is the boost regulated is it electronic or with a bov and if so can it be adjusted? Lastly any ideas on the surging? THanks!!

sounds like a combo of alot of typical msp problems, you cant really adjust it with out a boost controller. , the surge in 3rd prob fuel cut .
. a Bov in your case Bpv- doesnt controll boost it releases the excess pressure in the pipes while changing gears. check your lines for leaks just in case .

It definitely is not fuel cut, I have felt that before at around 7000rpm in 3rd gear. This is much more subtle but still noticeable. How do I get the boost levels back to the 6.9 psi range? I think this may actually help the surging if it is caused by an overly rich condition the extra boost should clear it up a little????

overly rich = room to add more air = more boost

simple, get a mbc from www.boostsciences.com

Its called an "accuboost" much better than joep's in my opinion.

7000 in 3rd is redline .. that was rev limiter not fuel cut

the problem is our ecu auto adjusts for the extra boost and just dumps more fuel
and gets richer , ive tried boosting up too 11psi to lean it , i normally will hit fuel cut over 8psi , what ya need is engine managment , fuel cut defender and luck oh and money hehe .

You can adjust boost by adjusting the length of the wastegate actuating rod.....it is threaded and all. Easy? No not by a long shot, warrenty? eh whose gonna check that?

DON'T BEND THE ROD.

are you sure? Theoretically if are cars are running super rich completely stock, that would mean with an MBC you would be able to lean out the a/f mixture.

yep she still will run as rich as donald trump even at 10-11psi

the surge hes getting could be some kind of cut , it could be hesitation from the over rich conditions it could be the change from closed to open loop , clamping the Maf voltage seems to have limited success with a fcd or similar

I don't have extra boost, my problem is it will not boost to stock 6.9psi levels and only maintains 6psi for 500-1000rpm before it falls to a steady 5psi from 4500 on.

hmm see i have my accuboost and hard pipes should be here in a week or so. I was planning on going up to around 10.5 but i was hoping i would see my a/f ration gauge lean out a little when at WOT. If it's still running that rich i guess i am gonna have to invest in a fcd. Just kinda scares me because it cuts the fuel for a reason :(

Take it to the dealership and tell them you bought a car that was advertised to boost 6.9PSI but it's not and that you want it rectified.

Maybe I should take mine to the dealership, and complain that I'm not boosting at the advertised PSI. My car boosts 8psi stock!

(lol)

Nah but seriously, boost pressure is one of the things that varies greatly from car to car....or specifically, from turbo to turbo (as demonstrated in this case)

My car has been like that ever since i bought the car. It varies on all cars. You're gonna have to get a manual boost controller. (thought)
