Bolt Diameter Adaptors

I have a set of 17 inch American Racing Rims that were on another car before I bought my MS3. I was hoping to put those rims on the MS3. As it turns out the bolt diameter of the MS3 was a few MM larger than the rims. I was just wondering if you could buy spacers/adapters for this type of thing? Could anyone offer some information?

What are the complete specs of the wheels in question? Bolt pattern, hub bore and offset please.

Short answer is yes. Whether or not it would actually be worth it monetarily or headache wise is a different discussion.

Thanks for the reply. The Bolt Diameter is standard for Mazdas its 5x 114.3. After i posted this I actually found some places that sell these adaptors and it doesnt seem to be a terribly expensive idea. The problem is I have to find wheels to put back on the bimmer and I am starting to think its just not worth the hassle.

If the wheels are 5x114 you don't need adapters at all. If the wheels came off a BMW they are likely 5x112 or 5x120 depending on the model.

the wheels are off of the BMW so yes, they are 120mm. Has anyone ever heard of having problems with these kinds of adaptors or any negative effects? Wouldn't I have to grind down/cut off my studs in order for the wheel to fit snug on the adaptor. Unless the picture in my head is just all wrong....

the offset of the rims i want to put on is 40mm. the rims are 17 inch. would this be ok even with say a 20mm adaptor?

Like I said before, complete specs are necessary to give you a solid answer. Most aftermarket wheels are made with a small relief between the lug holes, you may or may not need to shave the studs depending on adapter width and wheel design.

My opinion is unless these wheels are very rare or very expensive you're probably better off selling them and buying a new set.
