I'll take the less weight, high-strung attitude that an M3 should have. V8's are for 5 and 7 series. IMO.

I also think that:
335 + tune + lsd = more interesting than the v8 m3.

335i with software has around 364rwhp.

I voted for the e46 M3 because its smaller and lighter then the 08.

i agree , plus i dont really like the new design...v8 also guzzles more on gas ;)

they're both V8s. Its not a normal e46 m3, its the GTR, its got a V8. I believe it was designed as a racing homologation special, but i could be wrong. I know race prepped M3 GTR's participated in a few special FIA GT events.

The new V8 is the better engine

It's definitely more of a technical masterpiece. But that also makes it very expensive to repair. A friend of mine popped the similarly high tech V8 in his S4 (not even as high tech as the RS4) and the bill was 25k. The high price was partially due to lack of availability since the Audi 4.2 V8s are barely built fast enough to keep up with demand.

One of the main reasons I voted for the M3 GTR is because of the low weight. The new M3 is 3700lbs. That's absurd. My Audi wagon with AWD and automatic weighs that much.

I also believe the GTR is probably a lot faster at the track.

These days the new stuff is just overdone, over weight, overly expensive, overly plush, etc. I will admit that it is impressive what mfg. are able to pull off with these heavy cars. Like the Skyline GT-R weighing 3800lbs yet is able to defy physics somehow. Still I can't help but be frustrated to think what we could have with the same level of chassis development and a lot less weight.

I know people said the same thing about the E36, then the E46, so I guess the trend continues and looking back the E36 starts to look simple and good. I suppose in 2 or 3 more M3 generations I'll look back at this behemoth fondly.

I wonder what the "grassroots" crowd will be into in 20 years?

I would drive that in a SECOND! Granted, prepped GTR's are pretty hot sex too (google video: Hand Stuck Nurburgring ;))
