I noticed every time I start the car the oil light is blue and then finally disappears. I wanted to know the significance of the light being blue and any other details surrounding this.
Uhh, speaking of a need to read the manual...those lights are for water temp, not oil!It just indicates the engine temperature is cold/below running temperatures. It tells you in the manual (you should read it so you know how to operate your $30k investment!).
Blue oil light is okay and always shows up on start to remind you to take it easy until the engine warms up.
The engine also revs higher on start to shorten the warm up time (also in the manual).
If you get a red oil temp indicator light, that's when you need to turn off the vehicle because something is going wrong.
just scrolling through the topic titles for a couple pages works too, for the various forums, not just the general one (Lounge)...Just please take the time to use the search function...
Initial cold start there is 3 stages.
#1 - light on and RPM's high (wait - don't drive)
#2 - light on and RPM's kick down a touch - you can EASILY hear it usually within 30-60 seconds of starting the car (OK to drive - but take it easy)
#3 - light off and RPM's down (drive it like you stole it)
And if you think the engine is even remotely near operating temp when the blue light goes off, good luck with that "drive like you stole it" stuff.Initial cold start there is 3 stages.

You don't need to wait 30-60 seconds to drive the car. It runs rougher to heat the catalytic converter up to temp due to the 4-2-1 exhaust, but it is perfectly driveable. Performance is lower as would be expected of a cold engine and transmission.
