I noticed every time I start the car the oil light is blue and then finally disappears. I wanted to know the significance of the light being blue and any other details surrounding this.

You sure it's not the blue thermometer? It will light until the care comes up to operating temp.
Read the manual to familiarize youself with the dash indicator lights, there's a lot of them.

It just indicates the engine temperature is cold/below running temperatures. It tells you in the manual (you should read it so you know how to operate your $30k investment!).
Blue oil light is okay and always shows up on start to remind you to take it easy until the engine warms up.
The engine also revs higher on start to shorten the warm up time (also in the manual).

If you get a red oil temp indicator light, that's when you need to turn off the vehicle because something is going wrong.

Uhh, speaking of a need to read the manual...those lights are for water temp, not oil!

Bmninada, you must be a very recent new owner of you CX-5 as many of your recent questions and thread topics are covered in the owners manual or covered here on the forum already as they are basic questions. Not trying to be mean or anything, I understand the excitement that comes with a new car and wanting to know everything about the new car asap. Just please take the time to use the search function. I find searching "titles only" yields better results then search entire body. Also please take the time to read the owners manual or at least check the thing before asking on here. I only say this in an effort to cut down on the needless threads that get covered over and over. Things like dash lights and inner workings of the I-activesense or tech package things will all be in the manual. I hope you enjoy the CX-5 and welcome to the community, if you check the manual and did a search on here and still haven't found what your looking for, then by all means post away! We are all passionate about our cars and more then willing to help a fellow zoom-zoomer!!

Its a big manual and not very user friendly in terms of contents, index. So asked. Mazda has all the tech stuff but can't give a CD along with the book?

CDs are kind of dead. You might be able to find the manual online (Does Mazda do that?) in pdf format, so that you'd at least be able to search for certain terms. I haven't gone through the CX5 manual since it's my wife's car, but most will have a section with a diagram of the dash and all of its lights.

just scrolling through the topic titles for a couple pages works too, for the various forums, not just the general one (Lounge)

the download PDF manual is clickable - click index, then a subject, goes to that page, etc

the 2016 related (tho the earlier models are similar in a lot of ways) topics mostly start about april/may in the date column

Initial cold start there is 3 stages.

#1 - light on and RPM's high (wait - don't drive)
#2 - light on and RPM's kick down a touch - you can EASILY hear it usually within 30-60 seconds of starting the car (OK to drive - but take it easy)
#3 - light off and RPM's down (drive it like you stole it)

You don't need to wait 30-60 seconds to drive the car. It runs rougher to heat the catalytic converter up to temp due to the 4-2-1 exhaust, but it is perfectly driveable. Performance is lower as would be expected of a cold engine and transmission.

And if you think the engine is even remotely near operating temp when the blue light goes off, good luck with that "drive like you stole it" stuff.

That's true! The high idle when cold burns A LOT more fuel than a normal idle so it's way more efficient to make that fuel do some real work (other than sitting there while it heats up the catalyst).
