Blown Speaker from the Factory? (MSP)

Does anyone have any trouble with the speakers on the MSP? Although I can not verify what the salespeople did with the stereo before I picked up the car, I have a very nasty rattling sound coming from the lower speaker in the passenger door during certain frequencies. SOunds like it could be blown. Anyone else have any speaker problems? Is it even possible to blow the door speakers given the wattage of the stereo's output? I have not had the unit cranked up higher then 20 which is about 1/2 way to full blast.

Thanks in Advance!

I had the same problem when I got the MP3. It could have been anyone from the Dealer, the people who shipped it, or the people that built it. But, I ended up getting MUCH better speakers in place of them :)

I think mine was the 1st dealer she was at. Jerks.

Get it replaced under warranty. What they don't tell you is that the speakers only have a year warranty. I don't think that's true, but that is what I was told last year.

I haven't noticed anything with the door speakers but I noticed a rattling coming from the rear deck sub when certain bass frequencies hit. I have since adjusted the settings for the speakers and sub to my liking and it seems to have disappeared. Granted, I have not played the radio past the 22 mark since then.

I 2nd that Mark94!

I usually listen to music at the low to mid 20's volume if it's a good sound. I have never turned it up to 30's which is too loud for my likings. Although on certain bass frequency hits, i hear a rattle in the upper deck as well. I don't think the 8" sub is suppose to go through that kind of hit, so you adjust the frequency and it will disappear. OR turn it down, you'll go deaf! :D

But the thing that bothers me is that it sounded like a rear deck rattle and not bass distortion.

It sounded like there is something loose and there shouldn't be!

Mark,

When you adjusted the setting did you just modify the User Pre-set setting in the Q and just use that instead of using the pre-fabbed ROCK, JAZZ, TOP-40, etc? I need to learn how to do that because I am getting rattling as well.

My Miata has 2 8" 3-way speakers and a MTX 150x2 amp with the stock headunit and it sounds 10 times better than the stock Kenwood system. I just expected more.

Jonny, that's exactly what I did. I adjutsted all the bass, mid, treble, and sub output levels, and then set it to "User Presets."

It was a night and day difference between sound. The rock, jazz, flat, etc. sounded horrible compared to the user preset mode after it was adjusted.

How about this??? I get about 1/2 way home last night from my 55 mile commute and the noise STOPS! I pull over to see if the speaker has finally thrown in the towel and it sounds perfect! WTH? Maybe there was a loose screw or something floating around that was vibrating on it? Going to keep an eye (or ear) on it and see what happens.

Thanks!

remove the negative battery terminal for a few minutes or hit the reset button on the head unit. This will reset the head unit back to factory spec so if anyone screwed with some indelth option that is cuasing the problem it will stop.

Next time it happens try smacking the door to see if you can reproduce the rattle at all.

Kenwood has a 1 year speaker warrenty so you should be covered there. If you want to try to get a better picture of whats going on let me know and I can walk you throught getting the door panel off.

I Know its an MSP problem but if you want more help on this stuff, post it in the audio forum. Thats what were there for.

For those of you with the deck rattles there's an easy fix. Part of it is the retainers they use to hold the deck panel to the deck and the other part is the deck panel itself rubbing on the c-pillar plastic. Take some thick foam weather stripping and make a run around the entire outside lip of the panel on the underside. Take some thinner stipping and do the same around the edges of the childseat anchor covers. Reinstall the deck panel. Usually if you use thick enough stripping on the panel it will put enough tension on the retainers to keep them from moving and rattling.

Why kenwood speakers suck for the most part, the dual mags are the only decent set they have.

Honestly, I expected more also. There have been a few MP3 guys who said their system is far more impressive. I thought after two years of development and R&D, the system in the MSP would be slightly better.

I can't complain though because it is better than most stock systems. The only thing I can compare it to is my upgraded system in my Prelude.

The entire system, minus the radio, is about $600 at full retail.
Its rather un impressive.

they advertised kenwood excelon everywhere, and the head unit isnt but the speakers pictured in the most recent MSP brochure were

so i, although i havent checked, would guess excelon
