Blown Motor Today! Sorry guys!

yea..hopefully its only block damage.

edit: i was wondering if they were gonna charge ya..cause damn thatll be a high bill..

ok, you made stupid choices for the car and that should end NOW
having the dealer do more s*** to the car is just more stupid choices

so start making smart choices

They are only doing diagnostic to find the cause of the detonation. I figured that wont be too bad. The thing is I dont know a local mechanic I trust. I need to go looking. I was going to pay a forum member to drive from Atlanta to do the work.

Thanx, I will keep in touch.

With all the vendor army bandwagon aside...

Let's evaluate the situation.

MBC does not automatically mean blown motor. It just doesn't have an overboost spike protection feature. Even with an EBC with a broken actuator that feature would not have helped. It may have bled some of the boost but in the end the actuator is what opens the wastegate flap door on the turbo housing. But an EBC has far more features but with a big price difference.

Pre-built short blocks are great and dandy, but consider if he will need a new windage tray aka main bearing support plate and probably other broken parts from the rod shooting out the side. I would first evaluate what else has broken besides the hole(s) in the block.

Your check list should be:
  1. Source a new mode of transportation. You will be down for a while. At least a week if you just swap engines.
  2. Source a used MSP engine if possible. If your windage tray (main bearing support plate) is broken, which is about $450 new and is MSP specific, you will be better off buying a used MSP engine with it. Used MSP long blocks are about $1500.
  3. Find a reputable shop to perform the installation and labor work.
  4. Find a reputable machine shop if you are planning to rebuild the engine with stronger internals. Inquire if they have worked on an FS engine before and experience. Check their schedule and pricing.
  5. Source all your rebuild parts. To do a rebuild correctly you will spend about $500-600 in new bolts, gaskets, seals, pumps, belts, etc.
  6. Replace your clutch and resurface the flywheel while you are doing this. You do not want to pay another $400-500 labor later down the road for this.
  7. Replace the actuator on your turbo since it most likely failed along with new vacuum lines.
  8. Choose some sort of engine management tuning system suitable for your goals.
The point is finding a good mechanic and machine shop. If they do a half assed job you will most likely find yourself in the same situation later down the road.

DUDE I TOLD YOU THIS WOULD HAPPEN! Not to rub it in man, because I know that your probably not feeling top hot right now, but for the people who dont know.... you were running over 12 psi on your car with 87 octain! Fuel cut like crazy! Leaning out everywhere. We all told you to turn down your boost below 8 psi, and you set it to 10.5... and to never use that muel piss cheap gas ever again! Let me ask, were you still running 87 octain when it blew!? Damn man i'm sorry but we all told you it was comming and to be careful.

You didnt listen to me before, so you better listen to me now. If I were you, I would pick up your car tomorrow in the morning BEFORE mazda has a chance to look at it! Take it home, return EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING (EVEN OEM BOLTS and TORQUE SETTINGS) to stock. Then have it taken to another dealer and have them fix it under warrenty! It could save you thousands of dollars! Dealers cannot check work done at other dealers, but Mazda USA can, so dont let them get that call in the morning!

He was sent away from here because he publicly attacked other forum vendors, and lied about products (626 intake manifold anyone??)

I've had no problems with my dealings with **********, but I support Protegegarage whenever possible. No shadiness there at all :)

Bro, unless you want to awaken this issue again, I suggest you keep comments like that to yourself or at least post them in a less attacking manner. I dont feel like beating a dead horse again man, nothing personal.

Protege Garage, **********, and CircuitSport are all very reputable and will help him get his car running better than ever, it always comes down to shipping speed, price, and just general options. We'll see how it pans out.

i say theyre gonna charge 600 for that. you need to get your car back dude. i really hope you didnt let them touch it this morning

Yeah...he's gonna get rapped. WITHOUT lube. Get to the dealer and drag your car outa there before you wish you would've taken it there. TheMan has a good point.

the dealer is only aloud to charge a 1 labor hour diagnostic charge before going any further and calling him to confirm any further work. If they do you can refuse to pay it as you did not give consent beyond what they where supposed to do. The biggest thing here is whether or not a rod bent or you cooked a bearing. if you cooked a bearing the damage may not be so bad and that is causing the detonation....and please dont say you were running anything but premium fuel especially on upped boost.

MBC and no mods = boom!

yes, definitely go for a forged motor from a good vendor, not the dealership.

I promise guys....like my dude said before 93 octane only. I have put nothing less in. Same gas station everytime...EXXON. Shadow is right...they are only charging diagnostics right now. They called an hour ago and said they suspect actuator. MBC was taken off... ;) Must of gotten stolen in the middle of the night?? Oh well. They are checking other stuff. Will know in a bit. Rods #1 and #3 bent. They do NOT have my signature to do any other work other than to diagnose. Shadow is right. I didn't authorize it. I am sorry I didn't listen Platnum. Learned my lesson..trust me. I will be on till I hear from Mazda.

Yo I would through a fit if something got jacked from my car, specially if they voided my warranty because of it. I'm Hispanic I would make such a scandal I would end up with my warranty and an engine if I was in your shoes. Dame mi Warranty AAAAHHH!! (spanglish)

Mazda owes all MSP owners anyway for producing such a weak motor for a turbo with an even shittier tune.
