Blown Engine Replacement!!!

I blew out the engine on my 3 a couple months ago and am looking for a replacement. I have an '04 and recently found an '06 engine. My question is does anyone know if an '06 2.3L Manual will fit an '04 2.3L Manual?

i can't see why it wouldn't maybe some one like wongpres or ken from protegegarage could better inform you but i see no issues.

It should work fine, just use your cars wiring harness and sensors, there was some changes in wiring and sensors between 04 and 06

no! there's many changes on the 06 engine... for one the head design has changed... get ONLY an 04 or 05 engine!

I know from experience on this one- Plan on swapping over: front cover, crank pulley, intake cam, oil pan and valve cover

Thank for all the input. Guess I will look for an '04 or '05 to replace. Sucks I miss driving around my 3 but its hard finding an engine.

o.k. i have another question. i found an engine but it is from an automatic mazda 3 and mine is manual. Does the transmission have anything to do with the type of engine that goes in it? In other words does an engine from an automatic 3 fit a standard 3? I've asked around and most people say the engine should fit, but I need a better answer from the experts in this forum.
