Every car will react differently to mods, dont use MFR's numbers, or what you read off the net, cause its not always the right info.) :D

Um, that looks like a dyno of a stock Type-S. Either your friend doesn't have all of the mods you listed, or he's running on 3 cylinders. Just last night, my friend in his Evolution 8 w/ intake, raced a RSX Type-S with intake, hondata, headers, and exhaust. They were dead even from 30-110mph. The RSX has ran a best of 13.9 @ 105mph and put down 205whp. Not to mention another friend of mine had a Type-S with just intake, and ran 14.7 @ 94mph. When I last went to the track, there were two Type-S' there running low-mid 14s @ 97-99mph with just intake, hondata, and testipe. Add headers, exhaust, cams, cam gears, "etc.".... that's close to 107mph. That's a 13mph pull on you buddy. :) A stock Supra TT won't trap 107mph. You get the picture.

Ohhh, on top of that, I have hit 14.93 at 93 mph with JUST 10 lbs of boost, everything else stock. Your numbers are NOT accurate bro. :D (not trying to flame at all, just a discussion between msp bros)

According to my Vericom at 12PSI I am just a clip faster than that .
With a downpipe it should be a good deal quicker.

To the original poster:

But I don't really care because I really love driving the car every day ya know as "Normal" transportation.
This car is a great daily driver with some speed, style, MPG, handling thrown in. I will one day do more to but for the first 4 years or so I want to have a good overall driving experience.
I feel I can achieve this even with a few minor mods.
So enjoy your car and realize a cheap purpose built car will always be better at that one thing but a Daily driven car must be more than the sum of it's et's.

Wow, Incidious, those are some kick ass numbahs by those Type-s'. Im wondering if he is just not driving right or what. We are all planning 1 last trip to the strips next weekend, and Ill see if I can drive his RSX. I understand where you are coming from, but like I said, the RSX-s I have raced I have owned. :D (throw in a few regualr rsx too)

As far as the supra TT, remember those cars, from the factory, are built more for a touring car, then 1320 monster. They weigh well over 3k lbs.

hit me up on aim tonight. :D ilovemyspeed

Some of you guys are so ridiculous sometimes. I rarely visit this site because of comments like this. This board seems so immature compared to others that I visit.

What does it matter what car we drive, I love all cars, imports and domestics and I have been a loyal Honda owner since I was 17. When the MP3 came out I loved it and when SportCompact announced a "supercharged or turbo charged" big brother would be released in the next few years I knew that was the car I was waiting for.

I love the MazdaSpeed as I do my Honda.

Please don't let the stereotypical riceboys cloud your vision of Hondas because they truely are great performing and reliable cars which just happen to be inexpensive.

Maybe you need to visit more often and learn to take a joke, someone's a little uptight about there honda. Oh by the way I had a 2000 Integra for a little over 3 years before my speed and loved it to death so before you cry about the whole honda comment, take some deep breaths and know that it was all in good fun.

Looks like something is wrong with his car if that's his dyno sheet. And yes, at 8.5psi trapping ~93mph you should be able to take a stock Type-S or maybe one with intake until 4th gear depending on drivers.

I mentioned the Supra TT trap speed to give you an idea of how the Type-S with all of those mods should be able to beat one from a highway roll. And we all know how Supras are up top.

What I usually tell people is if you want a fast car, then buy a fast car. If you buy a car that needs to be heavily modded to suit your needs then you're buying the wrong car. The MSP is awesome and the handling ownz and has enough zip to make driving around town a blast.....not to mention ripping up the occaisonal Auto-X.....if you want more speed for the same $$$ then look at an SRT like I did.

Well put!!! I traded an '00 celica GT-S 6 speed in on mine. it may not be as quick as the celi but it is close and will OWN in the twisties. GREAT CAR fro the price and IMO looks better than the SRT-4 (as powerful as it maybe...it's still a NEON) now don't get me wrong. had my fince liked it I would be driving it instead. she liked the MSP I loved the MSP so as of last night I own one.

I have visited this board everyday since I registered in September 02 so I visit quite often. I undestand what you are talking about "a joke" but when you read comments like that almost everyday throughout the forums on this board, it gets kind of old and makes me feel like there are bunch of kids on the board who think that their car is the best thing ever to come off the assembly line.

As you can see by post counts, I have been here almost a year before you and have much less posts than yourself. It's hard to contribute when there aren't a lot of quality and insightful discussions.

you're kidding right? I ****** up a miata yesterday and i have only like $700 put into my car

miata owners sheesh

JFLO and everyone else who thinks the Mazdaspeed is slow in a straight line, please visit www.joepmbc.com. Buy the MBC, FCD and FPR and send yourself to the dragstrip with a tank of Sunoco 94. You will come home with a glove box full of slips that say 14.0 @ 102 !! Beat that for bang for the buck.
Bring on the SRT4s.

Not just you in particular, but a lot of people seem like they are just really unhappy with there MSP, I can't understand this, what the hell are you guys doing wrong, are you confused about the whole three peddle thing?

But seriously now, I have had my car about 5months give or take and I love it. I have a couple mods into it, no major money, MBC, DIY CAI intake, gauges and a few other minor things, no flash though I enjoy 12psi just a little to much, I suggest you try it, or if you have the flash try 10psi, it's whole different car. Just a couple days ago I was playing with a Mustang GT, and let me tell ya when he tried to pull away from and then realized that the gap between us wasn't getting any bigger the look on his face was priceless. To think his V8, 2 door, RWD sports car just got paced by a I4, 4 door, FWD Sedan (did I mention it's bright yellow), boy would I be pissed if I were him. I say do some minor mods, pick on some mustangs, and enjoy what you have, besides it could always be worse you could own a honda...

Hey Honda's ain't so bad ya know. True my '02 Accord EX coupe was an autotragic, heavy, and kinda slow (0-60 in ~ 8 secs). But it was also more luxurious than anything I've seen by Mazda (including the Millenia IMHO). Compared to the 6 it had much more character. I miss the comfort and luxury of it, but am happy with the better performance of my MSP.

For the orignal poster... the MSP is a remarkably quick car. You have to auto-x it or take it to a track day at a road course before you feel you were jipped. You'll be amazed at how much front bite you get, how quick the car transitions, and how easy it is to step the tail out without losing it. However, as to your concerns about how "fast" it is...

I missed out on the whole small bore drag car deal... why buy a FWD, small bore car if you want to go fast in a straight line? Why not get a RWD car with double the cubic inches and throw on a supercharger, etc.? You'd go much faster that way, for much cheaper, than by buying a new FWD car... until you get to a turn of course. Maybe it's because I'm from the South, but I still think cubic inches = better ET's for the same amount of mods. Of course, I've driven 7 small Japanese cars and 0 American cars, so I haven't had the true experience. I also like to be able to brake, turn, and accelerate through the apex (as often as possible!), so I also probably don't truly understand the drag racing mentality.

Oh yeah... a '91 miata is old? That's my daily driver and I don't complain a bit about it (less problems with it than my mazdaspeed, and the top comes off)... although I do wish I could get someone to buy me a new one!

i feel like if i spent the 19K that my dad's gonna invest in this car over the next 5 years into my MIATA, i would've came out one nice ass convertible richer.

Hrmm... your lucky to even have the car. Did you even pay for anything? You should stop bitching and should have read around some more before buying the car. No one should buy ANY car without knowing its possibilities, its limits, and its pro's and con's. Its your fault idiot. READ INTO THINGS FIRST, its like a general rule of thumb for any product.

Put the crack pipe down jr. Those three pieces will not knock 1.3 seconds off my et or add 12mph to my trap speed. You sound more like a bench racer then a real racer. Stock P5 huh?

OH MY GOD MY P5 IS SO SLOW I SHOULDA GOTTEN AN EVO 8 WTF MY PARENTS FAULT NOW I WANNA DIE

i couldnt say it any better. another thing i hate about the import scene is these rich kids with their parents money getting cars we dream about, while their getting cars they randomly think about. its annoying to see some spoiled fuckface get a nice car and b**** about it cause its not faster then someone elses.

He's a buddie of a good friend of mine. The 2 of them raced & Reuben's race header helped him pull big time.
