2016 Mazda CX-5 Touring FWD Bose/moonroof, sonic silver
I'm looking to get a '16 Touring in sonic silver but a black cloth interior is the only choice. Actually I'm glad I'm not getting any color leather interior since it gets way too hot. I'm thinking that a light exterior like silver will help offset any interior heat issues? Anyone with a light color exterior and black cloth inside, how hot does it get inside in the summer? Is it unbearable or will it be ok? Just wondering if I'm making a mistake as it gets pretty hot where I live in the summertime.

I don't have the cx-5 yet, but do have a 3 that is silver with black cloth interior and it does get hot in the summer. Not sure if it would be really much cooler if the cloth interior was a lighter color though. That does bring up a question I have though. My Mazda 3 air conditioner to me never really seemed that great in cooling down the car effectively. So, for current owners of the cx-5, how is the air conditioning unit in cooling the vehicle?

My previous car had gray interior, which is my preferred interior color. I can't say it gets significantly more hot in the CX-5.
I don't like leather so that is not an option for me. My wife's previous car was ~beige cloth seats / carpet. This was a mistake not to be repeated.

Before I bought my CX5 I sat in cars with black interior and Sand interior and the sand was notably cooler. I ended up with a red ext and sand int. ed

In my area we see temps of 110-118 for a few weeks in the summer,(crazy) so I have some firsthand knowledge on this...

The leather gets too hot, and the leatherette and vinyl get hot and sticky also, but the black cloth is just right, and it breathes well.

Dealer told me all cloth is the same and wont absorb much heat no matter the color. Said that black leather would be the only scorcher. I dunno if it was just dealer BS though.

My black cloth in my 15 Touring has been fine, not too hot, not too cold.

Im so happy to hear this!
People always talk about how luxurious leather is. I tend to disagree. Its generally too hot in the summer, too cold in the winter, and always slippery. Plus you have to continuously clean and condition it properly. I don't have kids or pets though, so scotchguarded cloth should be just fine with me.

Yup, same here, always afraid leather would be too hot in Summer, too cold in Winter, too slippery and hard to keep nice, and may crack with age. I'm content with cloth. But, who knows, if I had the right soft leather seats it might be one of those, until you've had it, you don't know what you're missing.

I have the black cloth and I'm fine with it. It hasn't been over 90 degrees since I've had the car, though. However, I did tint my front two side windows and plan on tinting the rear darker all around including the hatch.

We looked long and hard at the light interior color but just didn't like the off white color. Had there been a warm glove tan available, like GM uses, we would have been all over it [pun intended].
To compensate, we added a light, legal tint to our rear & side windows plus a limo dark tint to the sunroof. Interior temps are noticeably cooler in hot weather. Our AC seems fine.
Another thing we don't like is the black hole darkness which has motivated a number of owners to add additional lighting, particularly in the trunk area.

I have 2015 Black ext and black cloth interior. It get's very hot in the summers, i live in Ontario Canada where temperatures go from 20C - 45C (68F - 118F).

You have to leave the windows open or it's unbearable. My windows are ALL tinted too. Park in the shade when you can.

The black cloth does not get noticeably hot. Cloth material just doesn't really work that way. Think wearing a dark shirt in the summer. Sure it may be a very little warmer, but hardly something you would never do because it's so hot. When it's really hot, I think the cloth seats are the least of your worries.
I will say that this is the first black interior I've ever had, and I don't like it...it shows dirt like crazy and I'm a neat freak. :-)

Really glad it doesn't get noticeably hot. As for the dirt, are you talking about the floors? Maybe try some Weathertech mats or something.

Of course, a windshield sun blocker and good tints help, but my sand interior is very tolerable after coming back from the beach. The heat/sun temps were the main reason why I wouldn't get black leather.

I have tried both cloth and leather in the CX-5 (2016), and the leather beats the cloth hands down. Didn't want the white leather though, so I went for black. And to my suprise, the perforated leather feels a lot cooler than I expected, even after standing in direct sunlight. At first I almost thought the seats had active ventilation since they cooled down so fast, so I guess the perforation works, at least when you don't live in a desert. And the seats are in no way way slippery either. Dunno about the leather in previous year models, but in the 2016 they feel and look great. Doesn't get dirty like the cloth does either, and smells awesome :).

We too have the black cloth in our Touring model. No issues here with heat. When the AC is on, I usually turn it down (up?) cause it's too cold. We have the sunroof open on a regular basis.
But we're not exactly in the heat belt, so we only get a couple months of hot weather (well hopefully).

zero issues here, but I did get tint that highly reduces heat from the sun inside. if the seats/inside gets too hot get ceramic tint (very light darken, but excellent thermal protection)

I grew up in Texas (AKA furnace) owning a number of cars. The hottest had a black interior and yellow/white exterior. Had a black car with light gray interior and it was much cooler. The interior color is far more of a factor than the exterior color. A black interior collects heat and the windows act like a hot house.
