Hey guys I was searching for the rattling coming from the hatch of my car I get from all my subwoofers hitting - and I found this little plastic cover piece on the underside of the spare tire well, it turned out to be rattling a lot. So I took off the piece, and it was covering some weird ass lookign black box, with silicone hoses leading to it, that obviously feed some kind of liquid, what kind I couldn't tell. Anyone have any idea what this box does, and what it is doing way back here?

BINGO.....that is exactly what it is.....strange place for it...but that is what it is....usually you find that canister under the hood somewhere on most cars.....but not ours.

That's probably a pretty good place for it. I've experienced a couple cars where one of the hoses to/from the canister dry rotted and a nasty, greasy mess developed over time in the engine compartment.

haha. Maybe you are the one with the bomb under your car since your black box is not there anymore.

No see guys you have it, it's just covered by this screwed on cover, it's like an extension of the tire well indention on the underside. You can't see the box AT ALL unless you take off the splash shield.

The Glow in the Dark guy is right...

and due to it's proximity to the gas filler pipe that's why the prohibition against over filling the gas tank, it's easy to flood the charcoal canister with liquid gas if you try to squeeze the extra fuel into the tank after the pump does the automatic shutoff. Our dealer warned us of this when we took delivery of our P5. Appearantly, it makes the engine run really crappy until the canister gets purged. Better you pay the odd amount, rather than squeeze those last cents in. Jim
