Thanks for the comments. oddly enough it is a phil and ted stroller, alas i grew in the era of bill and ted!
the stroller finally arrived, and i took it down today to the dealer. If fits in the back with the rear seats up, provided i remove one wheel. Fortunately it is trivial to remove the wheels on this stroller. There also remains enough room for a small bag next to it.
Then i tried the same thing with a mazda 5. And it almost fits in the back with two wheels removed and the rear seats up. I was actually surprised at how much room is in the 5.
