OK, so who has the Thule setup, on the STOCK cross bars with fork mounts?
- Can you give me a parts breakdown?

- Also, anyone have clearance issues with the "rail" and the hatch?

I have the Mazda aluminum mounts, but want a better setup (fork) mount.

I need to sell the Cobra....

As far as I know there are NO fork-mounts that will work with factory rails. For forkmounts, you just about always need to get swapped over to round or squarebars.

Am I missing something then here? What's this:

Look closely at the front of the mount, there's been a crossbar of some sort "piggybacked" to the stock crossbar.

That is a Thule Velo Vise Rack Pack. It does exactly as poseur said, mounts a square crossbar to the top of the factory rack with something similar to the Fat Mouth Clamp.

I made a Tracker Foot kit work on my factory rack mounts. I love it, comes off with four buttons and one person in like 20 seconds.

yakima mighty mounts

Has anybody had any experience with the "mighty mounts" + Raptor combination made by Yakima? I guess it's the only thing yakima makes
for a factory roof rack.

Is it pretty much the same thing sold by mazda USA dealers?

I want to use the factory rack... thinking it's either this or the thule
velo vise posted below...

My bike rack mod

I already had a Saris roof top system, which is not common, but I'd used it on 2 other cars and didn't want to go buy a new setup.

My 2002 P5 had the stock roof rack. I removed the rubber gasket down the middle, and was able to fit the full-length upright-mount bike tray/carrier from my Saris without using the Saris cross bars.

A couple of good quality brass washers from Home Depot did the trick. It fits tight, and it looks nice because it's low profile. Looks stock.

The only downside is you have to partially dissasemble the P5 cross bars to get the attachments on, so you pretty much have to leave it on or off, and not switch back & forth.
