Then don't put Mazda5 tires on your Protege5.

buy tires that have a higher tread rating than 280?(shrug)

if you want the rally look, switch to a 15" wheel and tire package. maybe some compomotives?

the speed rating has nothing to do with how long your tires last. You can use the treadwear rating provided by the manufacturer as a guideline but they tend to be very inconsistant.

You could go 205/50/16 vs the stock 195/50/16. Also do a search for Khaosman....IIRC he is running 205/55/16's or maybe even 215/55/16's. It is definitely a differnent look.

As others have said, look at the treadwear ratings. You can find some to fit our car with a rating over 400 for a decent price.
