you should know that the steering rack on the MP3 has a SLOWER ration than the rest of the protege's. the mp3 rack is 15.4:1 and the regular protege is 15.0:1.

Ya, that's why I said more precise. It's more turns side to side. My hands needing to turn the wheel 1-2% more for a turn isn't a big deal. But you have better feel and control while you're turning.

Why do you think Protege Garage sells this rack on their site? Read their product description. ;)

http://www.protegegarage.com/651-product-651.html

thats the same description that he's had up there since 2001. i can't speak for ken, but his description is not entirely accurate.

its a documented FACT that the MP3 has a "Slower" ratio than the ES/Pro5. a slower ratio make for MORE turns lock-to-lock, not less.

in fact, subaru feels the same way giving the Impreza STi a ratio of 15.2:1, which is quicker than the standard WRX's steering ratio of 16.5:1. and the Japanese version gets a ratio of 13.0:1!

so, whats better?

I never disagreed that it was slower... I never said it was faster or slower, I know the MP3's 15.4:1 is higher than the 15.0:1 of every other protege. The MP3 shares the steering rack with the Euro Spec Proteges. But a slower rack, equates to a better feel and more precise steering.

Search for threads, there's plenty of people that have discussed it. Especially back around 2003-2006. It's generally agreed upon that the MP3 rack feels more solid and precise.

Not really sure why you're arguing this point so much...

i only stated the fact that the MP3 rack is not necessarily better than the ES/Pro5. driving "Feel" comes from much more than the steering rack, and is more connected to wheel, tire, and suspension specs.
