Best Tire foam/or gloss?

I want to try a different tire foam or something. I don't want something that's going to create black dust all over the rims, and only last 2 days.

Any recommendations?

i would stay away from spray-on foams, as those drip over the rims and creates a messy residue on the rims. I used Armor-All's spray tire foam, and had to wipe off the dripping from the rims after spraying on. And they only lasted 3-4 days before the shine fades away.

I'm gonna try the gel route w/ an applicator when I wash my car next time. Probably gonna try Meguiar's High Endurance gel, can't go wrong with a name brand like Meguiar's :)

yeah, I had the meguiars stuff in my hand today, but I thought I'd ask before spending $15.00 CDN on it. Just wondering if there is something else, maybe cheaper, or something else even better.

Old skool and cheap!

Here's the technique I've been using for as long as I have had cars, it leaves a nice looking tire that's not too glossy.

Step 1: while washing rims spray Bleche-white (not sure of company that makes it, comes in red/white spray botthe) on tires and scrub with brush (removes oxidated rubber)

Step 2: After tires/rims are dry apply Heavy coat of Armor-all and let sit on tire while while you finish drying. If all that soaks in apply second coat. Then use another clean cloth to remove excess.

Lasts weeks and looks good and seems to protect the tires well...

Meguires is the best I've tried. I've tried Armor All, No Touch, and a few other ones (can't remember the names). Meguires usually last about 3-4 week after using 2 coats in good weather. Under heavy rain conditions like this.....

you can expect Meguires to last about a week and a half to 2 weeks. But, I'm speaking out of my experience with Meguires.

I agree with Apex on this one. I use the Meguire's, and get a great black shine for a week-2 weeks!

i agree with you guys too... i use meguire's.. it lasts pretty long and my tires seem not to get that gooey black deposit on them...

I used Turtle wax extreme Tire gel or something.. and by the soudns of it. It doesn't compare to that maguire stuff. I say spend the $15 on the good stuff. I jsut use the crappy tire foam stuff to clean and shine up the wheel wheels....

One important thing to remember about tires. Make sure they are clean before using dressings. BTW, the black dust is brake dust getting deposited on your tires/rims by the silicone in the dressing. Be careful using Wesleys Bleach white~~it can/will haze and pit your rims if not applied properly. I use Simple Green, full strength with a little liquid car wash soap on a stiff bristle brush for my tires. Mothers also makes a tire & rubber cleaner that works well, but it is pricey, and the soap / simple green mixture works well. I then use Mothers Duration tire dressing to shine them up. I use Meguiars in a pinch, because thier products are comparable to Mothers, however, If I have a choice, I push the Meguiars bottle to the side and go with the good stuff. Like the bottle says, "There's No Shine Like Mothers" Plus Mothers have a more extensive line than Meguiars, so they offer products for every application you can think of.

Racer 5, thanks

Listen, do they have something that can keep the rims from pitting? and does it work? These RH's seem to pit very easy.

....I'll check their web site

hmmmm maybe CLEAR COAT WHEEL POLISH?

I use that meguiars tire gel. It's pretty good. I use the High Gloss and put it on pretty heavy, then lightly wipe it with a rag, this gets it into all the little nooks and cranny's. One thing I'd like to say is to stay away from Armor All, even on interiors. ArmorAll dries out vinal and plastics. It will leave your tires a browninsh color too, once it wears off. Armor All actually shrunk the dash of my Blazer so much that it broke some plastic tabs holding it all together. Mothers and Meguiars makes dash dressing without that greasy feeling, that won't dry out your trim/interior so much. Just my opinion.

well, I just bought some meguiars gel. Couldn't find the mothers stuff anywhere so that kinda of made my decision easier.

I just tried it, and it looks pretty good so far.

I use Jet Wet, its an aerosol can and you just spray it on and let it sit. its only like 5$ and it lasts for a few weeks and is really shiny. you just dry tires then spray it on.

Yeah i had the meguiar too,and it work it said. last 1 week. But then one day i was reading the Dunlop tire sheet, and it said"Do Not apply any tire dressing or cleaners.because dunlop sidewalls are specially compounded to resist ozone cracking or weather checking. But i still use it,cause it looks much better..!!

JDMP5 ~~I am in CT too! Dunlop only tells you that because if you lose traction due to the silicone on your tire, and you hit an old lady crossing the street, bounce off the curb, and hit a school bus causing it to tip and kill 35 school children, you cannnot sue Dunlop.

I would never use Armor All on anything but tires, it is true that it cracks plastics. I use mothers preserves on everything inside. Also to get rid of that brown stuff on the tires use the Bleche-White. That brown stuff will only show up if you dont clean your rims/tires every few weeks however (from my experience)

Wow, I've never heard of Armor All cracking dashes. I've used it on every car I've owned and never had a problem. Maybe you had a bad dash or something. The brownish tint that you get on your tire isn't actually from the tire cleaner or tire shine. It's actually a chemical that is in the tire that helps protect the tire. I remember reading that on tirerack or discount tire's site a while back..

I've heard many people say it cracks dashes and leather. In the 15-20 years I've used it, I've NEVER seen it happen.

While I haven't needed to use it on the mp3 yet ( going with all mothers products now), I still see many of my older cars going around. They look great still. No cracks.

I've never seen any evidence that proves armour all cracks dashes. Leather cracks over time any how, it's called age.

Besides the tire gel I just bought, I think I'm sticking with mothers products from now on.

Wonder who's fault that is :)

Not trying to change anyones mind, but I know that I won't use Armor-All ever again. The main reason isn't even the cracking, but in my old age (26) I've grown to appreciate the stock look of a car dash. The glossy, greasy Armor-All'd look and feel just detracts from a newer car I think. To each his own.
