Best sub (10 or 12") around $100 to handle 400W RMS?

Simple to solve, get a less powerful amp and save some money :D
Or simply turn the gain down. The reality is that basicly NO $100 sub is going to live a long life with a real 400 watts rms on it. If it does then its not going to have a warrenty from the manufacturer or will be from an online vendor that has warrent loops holes so to speak.
Well then my next question would be... what amp would do well powering the CDT CL-61a's (90W RMS) and still provide me enough juice 200 - 300 W RMS for a decent sub (such as the IDQ or even just a basic ID)? Keep in mind that I'm getting the Hifonics NX880 for $210 from a friend who is a distributor. So any other amp would have to be in the $200 - $230 range.

Wouldn't the PG Ti10 be a good $100 sub in my original scenario? I have seen a Ti12 that was factory renewed at sounddomain for $90. And the CDT subs ... they are rated for 400W RMS (also on sale at the CDT site and sounddomain - both for $100).

I understand what you are saying about the longevity of the sub. I could turn down the gains, but since my budget is limited, I wanna do it right. Maybe I should have started the $500 challenge (naughty)

Sound domain PG should have a warrenty although you may want to get the details on the renewed sub before buying it. SD in general has warrenties so you should be good to go with them but be sure to check on the important things to you.

Yes a decent warranty is important to me. I think the factory renewed only carry a 3 month warranty ( with a 30-day monry back guarantee).

So no comments on any of the other subs or their purported power handling capabilities, sound quality, etc? I'm not dead set on the sub as you can tell and would be willing to change choice of amps as well, but don't wanna blow my budget (amp and sub combined should come in under $350 excluding shipping, be 4 channel, and provide at least 200W RMS bridged to get me some bump in the trunk).

Thanks.

There's also Kicker Comp VRs which are about 150$ but will handle the 400W RMS.

Or similarly, Infinity Kappa Perfect 10VQ (Blem)

linkage: http://www.cardomain.com/item/INFPERFECT10VQC

However, if it was me spending the money, I'd go with the IDQ...hehe.
Thanks for the suggestion servo. I was planning on steering clear of the Kickers. I have already had a Kicker Comp (older 12 in a ported box). Looking now for something else.

Say I were to get the IDQ (i.e an IDQ12 v.2). The sub is rated at 350W RMS. I assume I should just turn down the gains a bit (as the amp would be putting out 440W) - maybe a quarter of the way. Does that sound reasonable?

Damn budgets!!!!

ITs not like your buying an eD sub so don't worry about a little extra wattage it will be fine.

Wahoo... ok found a place that would ship the IDQ12D2 v.2 to me for $147... looks like we might have a weener... er...winner.

I will have to make it up to the wife somehow.... hehehe

make it up to the wife, id is more then worth the money, ive been around their products for years. i'm pushing 400 watts to my idq 10 and its not even straining. the rms is just a starting point. those subs can handle 440 watts easily no need to turn the gains down. i had a pair of idq sitting in a box for 2 years and just go them in the car last month and they work perfectly. if you pay a little bit more the first time and buy quality pieces you won't be spending more money down the line when the budget stuff you saved money on breaks.

mp3wannabe... check out infinitecaraudio.com. They list the IDQ12D2 v.2 for $134 + shipping. Don't buy the last one!!! :)

As to the box, I'll get back to you. I gotta go back and check the specs on the ID web site. But $30 is a great deal. I'll get back to you later today about it.

Ben

* edited to fix the name of the site - left out an 'i' in audio *

sndsgood... Yeah I agree it's better to pay the price up front for quality stuff. I was just a little nervous about pushing the wattage almost 30% over RMS. Don't wanna spend all that money to see the thing sizzle.

Thanks again for everyone's input!!!

Ben

remember thats the rms max on that thing is 700 and your no where getting near the max. image doesnt undderate their equipment, i would'nt be surprised at all to find out they can handle 1000 clean watts.
