Hi guys

I'll be driving from LA to Miami with the car fully loaded (I'm guessing about 800 or so lbs) and a hitch cargo carrier with load also weighing down my CX-5 Touring 2015. Whats tire PSI would you recommend for this trip on the stock tires.

Also I'm thinking of installing brake lights on the cargo carrier. How do i access the power cables to make external brake lights functional? I didn't see anything under there when installing the hitch. Thanks! 3200 miles in 2 months driven and still enjoy the CX-5.

hmm personally I would not want to load a hitch cargo carrier for a long trip. That's a constant lever action on the frame (assuming you weighted it). Unless it has a pogo wheel or something on it.

as far as light's if you just want a ghetto temporary solution you can do it where you hook into the existing lights, no cutting required, and the wire just hangs out the door when you want to use it. the other method is to hide it under the trim, and use the access hole to the outside of the car at the bottom of the tire well. Click my "aftermarket part's" thread in my sig, and you will see the harness, along with a link to a good write up (which I used myself) by howlin4u

The owner's manual recommends 40 psi for towing loads. I tow a 5x8 trailer with two motorcycles on it several times a year with no problems. I use the curt wire harness for the trailer lights and hang the dongle out of the hatch. It will mar the paint on the bumper for long trips. If you can run the cable through the outside of the vehicle, you could avoid that.

In '15 manual on (page 9-8) they recommend the following with full load in US.

EDIT: Actually they don't specify partial or full load for US and FSM states the same thing.

[17"/19"

34 psi front
36 psi rear

Then for Mexico they suggest this..

[17"]
38 psi front
41 psi rear

[19"]
38 psi font
42 psi rear
