lil child your better off saving up for a catback, rather then pay to get a muffler on. you wont get any preformance gains.

itll have a funky whiny non deep tone. the megan racing exhaust is the cheapest ive seen for catback exhausts, but i dont think its gonna fit a 99.

your better off paying to get custom piping, and getting that muffler flanged.

You'll have to research the fitament for the 1.6liter 99...I don't know s*** about that...I would imagine the axle-back portion to be realatively similair to the 2.0Liter...why would they redesign the exhaust for a .4 liter difference...


Buy a tip at autozone and call her beat...

thats the n/a sound thread. each of the sound clips have details of what was done to their exhaust system. a few dont work though so yea..it might help ya on what ur looking for or give ya ideas of what ya might want to do in the future.

haha i got sold on the mazdaspeed axleback because i didnt want to void my warranty at the time. its a bit loud when u go WOT and drones if u go 70 or higher(just blast ur music xP). being on a little island, the fastest i went was 65..LOL anywayz i love the sound of it. doesnt sound ricey at all xP

I say HKS Hi-power axle back!(bolts up to stock piping and it comes w/ silencer) the problems people had is the hangers ripping/bending and making a leak. it never happened to mines and had I it for 3yrs. now. the HKS sound is perfect to me and it looks great with the exhaust already angled= JDM. i spent $220 from options auto salon. anyways you can always upgrade the rest of the piping later to have more flow.

btw for the other dudes.. How much will be for the HKS w/silencer??

i been told 2.50'' its the best for the protege.. if you go wide opne you lose torque ( from 3'' to 4'' )

Cost me about 190 for the muffler off robearracing.com+ another 20 or 30 to have it welded on.

As far as gains,I'm pretty sure it's just a usual 2-5 hp or so,I'm not sure.But ya,before I put in my header,my car was really quiet w/ the WS2.And it's JDM!!(2thumbs)

Nice! So the ws2 sounds quite with stock header/catback, what aout if you put OBX headers/stock catback/WS2??

To make it simple.. if you already have WS2 welded on and you change either header/exhaust system, your car is gonna sound louder?or keep the ws2 sound?

i bought kartboy exhaust hangers before and they didnt work well because it cause the exhaust to lift and hit the bumper. so the stock hangers is what you can most likely only use, but you still can try them since it aint the same ones i had.

i dont understand why you want to put an exhaust on then? for the gains? the muffler is going to give maybe 1 whp.

think of it like this.

your constipated, and you take fiber to clear yourself, but it only removes whats near the "exit" if you know what i mean. your still restricted. i say, save up, get some custom piping done, then get that muffler welded on. your car will more then likely have a deeper tone to it, and if its a well designed muffler, wont drone or be obnoxious.

racing beat makes a great catback, but idk if it fits a 99 protege

anything lower then 93 decibels is illegal in california...

you wouldnt have a problem with that if you had a proper exhaust system.
your not gonna see any noticeable gains from just a muffler, and you want it to be deathly quiet anyway. making it pointless to spend money on a muffler.

after intake... you get exhaust? a full catback. get something thats over 93 db, you wont break the law then. either way, paying money for someone to weld a muffler to your stock piping is a waste. you dont gain any horsepower from it, and you wont make much of a sound.
