Some good ones listed here, and some of my favs....
Gone in 60 Seconds, the OLD one. Although eleanor in the new one is bootylicious. fyi, while there were 7 eleanors in the new 60 sec., there was actually only ONE driven in the old one.
Mmmmm, american muscle.....
Ronin: brought back the in-car chase, IMHO. Where did they bring it back from? From what is probably my favorite car movie, simply because of ONE chase scene, which set the standard for every movie made after that:
BULLITT with Steve McQueen. The chase scene with the 'stang and charger is quite possibly the best chase scene ever.
There are longer chase scenes (probably) and chase scenes with better CGI effects, and scenes with cooler cars (for some) than those. But you gotta understand, when that came out it did to car/action movies what Star Wars did to sci-fi. There is no dialogue, no cutaways, no CGI. Just 10 minutes of pure ass-kicking driving, all done by the actors in the movie. Boy, when they're playing the buildup music during the slow follow around town, and then the charger jsut blows out and the music stops, I usually bust a quick one. My dad has that on DVD. I'll head over to his house, grab a beer, and throw in that movie. As soon as the scene comes up we crank the surround sound up to "inside the engine compartment" level and toast a beer.
Deathrace 3000 is hilarious, so bad that it's actually a classic.
GIS2 is THE s***! as well.
And then there's the Blues Brothers.
While Bullit has me for what it is, undoubtedly the most over-the-top, coolest, funniest, involved chase scene is that final chase into Chicago to the Richard Daley plaza to drop off the tax chack for the orphanage. God, it dont get no righter. But then that whole movie is a work of art. I think they should take down the goddamn boring ass Mona Lisa from the Louvre, and just put up a flatscreen that constantly loops Blues Brothers instead.
While I was "entertained" by F&F, that movie was so......******* flawed that I could never include it in a list like this. Blues Brothers was totally unrealistic, but then it was a comedy with lots of good music and over-the-top characters, not a supposed "action" movie.
