Best Car Movie

any of the BMW films short films

Speed channel has been running a series of Z4 BMW films lately. It's pretty cool watch all 3/4 Z4 short films in one sitting and see the Z4 kick some ass :)

Some good ones listed here, and some of my favs....

Gone in 60 Seconds, the OLD one. Although eleanor in the new one is bootylicious. fyi, while there were 7 eleanors in the new 60 sec., there was actually only ONE driven in the old one.
Mmmmm, american muscle.....

Ronin: brought back the in-car chase, IMHO. Where did they bring it back from? From what is probably my favorite car movie, simply because of ONE chase scene, which set the standard for every movie made after that:

BULLITT with Steve McQueen. The chase scene with the 'stang and charger is quite possibly the best chase scene ever.
There are longer chase scenes (probably) and chase scenes with better CGI effects, and scenes with cooler cars (for some) than those. But you gotta understand, when that came out it did to car/action movies what Star Wars did to sci-fi. There is no dialogue, no cutaways, no CGI. Just 10 minutes of pure ass-kicking driving, all done by the actors in the movie. Boy, when they're playing the buildup music during the slow follow around town, and then the charger jsut blows out and the music stops, I usually bust a quick one. My dad has that on DVD. I'll head over to his house, grab a beer, and throw in that movie. As soon as the scene comes up we crank the surround sound up to "inside the engine compartment" level and toast a beer.

Deathrace 3000 is hilarious, so bad that it's actually a classic.

GIS2 is THE s***! as well.

And then there's the Blues Brothers.
While Bullit has me for what it is, undoubtedly the most over-the-top, coolest, funniest, involved chase scene is that final chase into Chicago to the Richard Daley plaza to drop off the tax chack for the orphanage. God, it dont get no righter. But then that whole movie is a work of art. I think they should take down the goddamn boring ass Mona Lisa from the Louvre, and just put up a flatscreen that constantly loops Blues Brothers instead.

While I was "entertained" by F&F, that movie was so......******* flawed that I could never include it in a list like this. Blues Brothers was totally unrealistic, but then it was a comedy with lots of good music and over-the-top characters, not a supposed "action" movie.

Well.........some 'fun' car movies listed here, for sure. But the true motorsports enthuisiasts here (and elsewhere), will (and do) agree that in the past 35 years, there have been 2 great racing movies:

"Grand Prix" (1967) & "LeMans" (1971)

Everything else is pretty much just a waste ot time (in the racing genre).

"Bullitt" is a classic for sure. Steve McQueen was always a car/bike lover; which led to his making of "LeMans". He was also an amateur racing driver, having participated in the 12 Hours of Sebring, and others. "LeMans" nearly failed in production, but was saved, and released. It lacks a good story line, but the Ferraris and Porsches you see in the movie are quite real. It's a fun movie for motor racing enthusiasts.

My personal favorite is "Grand Prix". All I can say about this movie is: Wow! A great story, with great actors, incredible racing sequences, and something else most unique: Enzo Ferrari, after having talked with the director, John Frankenheimer, allowed/welcomed the production company into the Ferrari F1 factory. This was completely unheard of for a team to allow this, let alone Ferrari.

Special camera mounts were designed for "Grand Prix", that were not used again until Frankenhemier directed "Ronin". Simply incredible footage in "Grand Prix"!

Both of these movies are 'must see', if you truly love motorsports.
Unfortunately, both "Grand Prix" & "LeMans" are still only available on VHS. This needs to change!!

Oh; and yes; I enjoyed 'both' "Gone in 60 seconds", and "The Wraith" was fun. By the way; that purple sports car in "The Wraith" was actually one of the PPG INDY Pace Cars from the 1988 (or '87) season.

Another good (interesting) movie; "Redline 7000" w/James Caan (around 1967). Not a great movie, but it has a couple of 'very' great cars in it. A 1965 Shelby GT350, and a very, very rare Cobra Daytona Coupe. One of 6 created by Carroll Shelby's team to "Kick Ferrari's Ass" in the 1965 World Championship for Manufacturers. The actual Daytona Coupe in this movie (chassis #2601), is the one that wrapped up the "1965 World Championship for Manufacturers" at Rheims, France July 4th, 1965. The first time an American manufacturer has claimed that elusive prize.

I couldn't agree more - that chase in Blues Brothers was hysterically entertaining - I'll watch the movie just to see that, then shut it off if there's something else on....

And FF1 was so bad I laughed thru the whole thing. I hadn't seen it until a few months ago, and I felt like a line Jerry Seinfeld once said: "I wish I could have the last (he said 20 seconds) 2 hours of my life back".

Ok...I'm going to pull some old school movies and TV shows...all of which I loved as a kid..followed by new movies:

OLD SCHOOL
1. Cannon Ball Run...vettes, lambo's, muscle cars..etc.
2. Miami Vice...Testorosa(sp)..and that black car
3. Dukes of Hazard...I'm showing my age!!!..LOL
4. Magnum P.I. 308 Ferrari

NEW SCHOOL
1. I did like the Nissian SKYLINE in TF&TF...and some of the other cars that pulled up in the drag scene owned by real people as movie props
2. Gone in 60 sec.......YES all of them!!
3. Ronin

My favourite would definetly be Ronin
that S8 was the star of the show

driving fast with leather on your ass.

amend

i have to say that now since i have seen gettaway in stockholm 1 and 2...... thats the best real life street racing i have ever seen. Supra and a Ford Escort Cosworth.... Damn!

I like Bad Boys with his Porsche 911 GT2 I think it was, vs the silver car at the end when it went into the wall. What are those called?

"Now That's How you drive a car!!!" (little dialogue there)

actually I loved that whole movie. It was very funny. Those two were great together, I can't wait for the sequal. man I would have loved to wind that porsche out down that runway.

And of course Christine :)

and ummm... austin powers 3 with gold members funky looking thing :)..

but I think my fav was bad boys and the porsche sceen. Good stuff.

out of hollywood i have to go with Ronin, that hole chase seen was just amazing. But as a rewacth favorite Gone in sixty seconds both old and new take the cake there and even though GISSone was better the shot of the XJ220 in GISStwo makes me watch two more. Then even know its fake as s*** there still something about watching those civics drive under jacked up semis in the fast and the furious.

as far as low budget or home video goes I half to say Mischeive 3000 part II is awsome and for those who havent seen it or heard of it I think its worth its 10 bucks. I have to say theres just something about a tripped out Bimmer trying to catch up with a Ferriari F50 at full throttle, that just makes me want to watch it again and again.

also has any one seen the trailer FaF2 it looks like itll be worth its 9bucks just in cars and fake asz car stunts

ok guys i didnt see GONE IN 60 SEC's on here........they got probably all the best cars of the world in that movie w/nicholas cage, and a whole bunch of peeps.....and to the comment about fast and the ferious 2 vin diesel isnt in it cause he wuz offered more money to make XXX-2.......and both movies were going to be done at the same time so thats why he isnt in part 2....ja rule on the other hand just plain sucked at acting......and yeah it looks like its going to be a realist transformer movie to me.....but i'll still see it just cause i saw part 1.......
