Best Buy Install

I had my new speakers and amp added to my stock headunit in my P5. I had this done at Best Buy (why you ask? b/c I could put it on a Best Buy credit card). Those idiots removed the fake carbon fiber, climate controls, vent, etc so the whole surrounding area of the stereo. And ho did they remove this? It appears they pried at it with a screwdriver or two. This is evident by all the scratches on the dash surrounding the stereo. To top it off, the headunit is not even back in all the way. Now I plan on going back b/c I really don't want a car with 4000 miles and a ****** up dash. Think their insurance will fix it? How much do you think it would cost to fix the scratches? Any input would be appreciated.

AHH someone did that to my car the day after I got it.. it was a private shop so i couldnt say n e thing.. but its not too bad.. i think bestbuy will cover that. good luck.

b**** as much as you have to. Demand to talk to a manager as no one else can make a decsion. Before you go there take it to a dealer for a quote on repair. The vinayl can not be fixed only the entire dash can be replaced. if the scratches are small they can be hidden by coloring them with a similair crayon.

best buy installers are the biggest bunch of retards ever. it took 4 trips to get a head unit installed. they then refused to let me use my own amp kit and wanted me to buy there very overpriced amp kit because their installs have a lifetime warranty. their reasoning is if it's not their amp kit then how can it be covered under warranty. makes sense but who needs a warranty on a piece of wire. only way anything goes wrong is if i **** it up myself and i'm pretty sure that wouldn't be covered on their warranty. secondly it almost made me laugh to think that they think their warranty on a piece of wire is worth the extra 150 i'd have to pay for their amp kit. it got better though. first 2 appointments they couldn't produce a dash kit. third trip they shouldn't have any made an appointment as they were booked. on the fourth trip i provided my own scosche dash kit (makes me wonder how that is acceptable since they can't warranty something they didn't sell me). i let them install the head unit and attempted to do the amp when i got home. the guys are complete color-blind geniuses though. my amp doesn't work because they ran the remote wire from my head unit to god knows what. no one who owns a car they care anything about should buy or have anythign installed from this place. the installers don't know anything, and the guys that work on the floor selling it no less

they are usualy terrible to say the least.
Not all though. Even tweeter has its supply of retard installers.
I had to go personally fix a customers civic yestureday becuase one of my dipshit installers refuses to check cars when he's done a job and the retard never set the gain on the amp he installed. This one guy had to come back 3 times to get what he wanted and I told him from then on come see me and me only and I will ensure everything is perfect and give hime a BIG discount, the best I am allowed with out getting fired, on everything in his next purchase with us.

Claim

Well I filed a claim with their insurance. The manager said they will pay for a new dash. Anyone know what a new dash and labor would cost?

Get a quote from a local body shop or Mazda themselves. That way you not only know for yourself but then they can't get by with a so so job just to save cash.

i dont go to best buy or circuit city for any car audio anymore. they have the dumbest ****** people working in that department. i had my car alarm installed at circuit city and those dumb ***** took forever because they said they crossed some wires or something. i dont trust them at all.

a good rule of thumb when stereo shopping is that if the salesman has to look up simple things like wattage or if the unit comes with a remote, go somewhere else.

without a doubt...get the quote from and have the dash replaced by the Mazda dealer.....if you start dealing with someone that isn't familar with YOUR car...you may end up with a whole new bag of problems with someone trying to remove your dash and putting a new one in...

this is just all another lesson in why you shoud DO IT YOURSELF....and if you don't know how....seek out EXPERTS that do.

personally I don't consider Best Buy experts.

I disagree strongly here. Especialy this time of year with the model changes it takes a whilke to get the info about all the little details with the different models straight. Keep in mind between speakers, amps, subs and head units there are over 100 different products a salesmen has to know. To be honest I pay no attention to little things like remotes. I am more concerned with gathering performance informationfrom other installers and sales people.

Ask them about proper subs for the amp your running. If they try to sell you 2 4 ohm subs for a 2 channel amp, thats when you know you have an idiot.

that was a joke, but once a guy tried to sell me a head unit that he said he 'highly recomends and sells a lot of' (which i would assume means that he knows about this head unit) but when i asked him if it came with a remote (there was a sale sign covering the specs) he says let me check and comes back 15 minutes later and says 'i dunno.' that is a dumb ass. that is why i try not to deal with their salesman.

im not saying they are all bad, but most of my experiences have been frustrating.

i hope people learn from this lesson. unfortunately, sykotick was the one to experience it first hand. what does Best Buy specialize in? everything that has to do with retail consumer electronics. Meaning they don't SPECIALIZE in any one category. So, take your equipment to a SPECIALIZED audio shop. they specialize in audio (obviously) and they'll have more experience with installs. you're not guaranteed to have 100% satisfaction, but it'll be alot better than BestBuy for sure!

I would more phrase it as their installers are typicaly as crappy as the products they sell.

hey guys just dropping by in this fourm, ive been a installer for 12years now and yes i STARTED out at circuit city and best buy. they will cover that damage with some paperwork and a manager and some bithhing and 1st MP3 i know how that feels to have half-mind installers in a GOOD shop:) have one of them at our north store hopefully not for too much longer hehe if you all want to see our outdated website go to www.customsounds.com later PM with any questions

Come on guys do we have to have this discussion again. I am an installer at Circuit City and take offense to this. Every place has good and bad. Not just Circuit but "Specialty Stores" as well. I agree some of the sales guys in mass retail stores are not as knowledgable as they should be and it sucks at times when trying to get info on a product but not everyone's like that. Just ask Traitorhound, I think he'll agree that this Circuit City installer helped him out quite a bit.

The problem is CC and BB have a higher precentage of morons then most places. Mostly do to lack of training. However I know of some "Custom" shop I would never go becuase they are all incompetent drug addicts that don't give a damn about a customer. THese small shops can often be even WORSE!!!

Jelly Don't take offense as noone is saying you or all of the CC installers suck but many do and peoples experiences with them back that up. Personaly I go on an installer by installer basis. Never saying an entire shop is terrible unless I know all the installers.

very good point. i wouldn't go to the installer that messed mine up no matter who he worked for. the guy who first looked at my car used to work at the stereo shop with friends of mine so i know he knows what he's doing. for whatever reason though the guy who installed mine doesn't know what he's doing yet is evidently above everyone else in that department. maybe some of the CC and BB employees can answer this but what training is involved? It almost seems as though the person is hired and goes completely with previous knowledge. I'd like to know what training there really is so I can make suggestions when I send in my formal complaint to both BB and CC. i'm not biased, my hate for retail installers has spread to both the major 2. BB messed mine up and i wish CC had never even touched my ex-girlfriends car. they used 3 feet of groud wire at 18awg is my guess. there's also black marks on most of the terminals. hmm sounds like someone didn't disconnect the negative battery terminal. so far nothing else seems wrong.

hell yea JellyBean98 is the MAN. . . . . .. .hooked me up with some needed info. . . actually i wanted a job at CC or BB but they never hire cause all the other kids want to work there too. . . . .it really just depends on the actual person you are dealing with.

but i like Nukes idea. . . .do everything your self unless you are not competent enough to figure it out and then make sure you find someone who is. . . .

I worked at BB for less then a month. After being hired you watch 1 video on selling another on selling service plans and then they give you a small info packet for your sales area and thats all the training for the sales people.

I asked my manager if there was a training department or any liturature we had on our products. He told me people come here to buy they have already done all the research at other store so I had no need to do that and there was none. I quit the next day!
