Bent wheel warranty question

Just got my winter tires put on and noticed that my car was kinda hopping the faster I went. Had my mechanic look at it and turns out I have a bent rim on the left front.

I had gotten the extended warranty that covers rims and tires.

Called up Mazda and was told that if the wheel isn't bent enough, the warranty company may not cover it. I called bulls*** on that and he said that he understood but that he had to tell me that. Obviously if they don't cover it, I'm going to the finance manager that sold it to me and bitching her out until she takes care of it since I was told that it covered bent rims, not "depends on how bent it is rims".

Has anyone had a bent rim not covered by the extended warranty when it should have been?

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt... it's a stupid rule but so long as the tire can still hold air, the warranty will not cover a new wheel.

I remember bringing up the scenario to the guy I dealt with for my wheel that was bent, "what if the wheel was a complete square but was still holding the air in the tires"?.. he told me the warranty still won't cover it. Like I said, it's stupid!

wow that is pretty retarded, i especially like your comment about the square tire

so are you saying they bent the rim putting the new tires on? if so that's not a warranty claim, that's a property damage claim

Nah, it was bent before that. My car wasn't feeling right when I was going above 70, but I figured it was the cold affecting the stock tires. As soon as I switched over to All-Seasons for the winter, I guess the different tire compound made it clearer that there was something wrong with the rim.

Thanks for the info Nickster. I found my warranty documentation last night and no where does it have a condition where they don't have to replace the wheel if it isn't bent enough.

Now you got some fighting power! Good luck man.

if that doesn't work, you can file a claim on your insurance company to replace the rim....if you have a full coverage.

Just go hit a curb hard enough so that it doesn't hold air anymore! Or better yet, drill a hole in it (idhitit). Just make sure you're the banana, not Mazda.

I had the finance manager flat out lie to me about the tire warranty and what it would cover, she had no clue but told me it would cover any wheels you put on and basically any reason. not quite the case, i did get a claim to go through and that finance manager was fired shortly after so im happy.

Yeah, mazdas $500 wheel and tire coverage is bulls***.

I got suckered into that too. I popped a tire with 4/32" on it and they told me that it wasn't covered because it was too worn out. Funny, I got another 5,000 out of them before I had to replace the other 3 tires.

The best part was when I asked the sales person at the dealer if $500 covered the wheels and tires for the entire warranty period of the car. She said "Yes, it does". So I asked... "What about when this set of tires wears out, does it cover future sets". She looks at me, amazed that I would ask such a thing and says "Well, no, but these tires should last you for the duration of the new car warranty anyway." I said "Really? They only have a treadwear rating of 150. I'd be surprised if they last 20,000." She says "Oh, well I don't know about that."

Good product knowledge.

go and try and get the wheel balanced. when the balancer comes up with an error message. have the shop write a receipt saying the wheel cannot be balanced due to it being out of round. bring it to mazda. when they deny you, inform them that they are now breaching contract and you will be filing a lawsuit. watch how quick you get ur s*** taken care of.

^^ LOL... I like that approach!!

Haha, me too. I'm going to tell them not to replace the wheel if it won't be covered under warranty. Will use this if it gets to that point ;) Thanks =P

And the best part is that my family has a judge as a family friend. Free lawyering right there.

So, they are replacing the wheel under warranty. He said it was pretty bad, but not bad enough normally to get it replaced and that he had to lie to the warranty company about it.

All's well that ends well.

Funny how s*** changes when you have good paperwork to back it up! Nice work man!

I'm a bit jealous since my warranty guy obviously lied to me about the whole "tire holding air" crap... should've kept my paperwork :(

The funny thing is, I found my contract and it did indeed say that it had to hold air for it to be covered. The marketing brochure doesn't mention it though. I think what might have did it was that I told him that if I found out it wasn't covered, that I was going to speak with the finance manager who sold me the coverage without telling me about this stipulation. Obviously, they don't want to deal with any extra crap, so my guess is that he pushed it through just to get rid of me.

I even told him that if I was told up front that this stipulation existed before buying the coverage, I wouldn't have had an issue with it. My complaint was that it wasn't mentioned to me and that I was finding out after I had the issue.
