BC Coilover Question

Alright, just ordered a set of BC coilovers on monday from PG, my first ever set of coilovers (I currently have H&R springs on my car, but they are coming off) and I have a few questions. I currently enjoy the height the car is at, but I wanted the adjustability with the coilovers, and I want to go a little bit lower and stiffen up the suspension. Now, it is my understanding, that the rear lowered all the way with both collars still in isn't too low, correct? I have read where alot of people have been removing one of the collars in the rear to make it go down lower. My question, for the people who have done this, does this affect the ride comfort level of the car? Does removing that collar make it a harsher or more dangerous ride? I understand the dampening can be adjusted, I am just curious if this will mess up anything removing that collar, cause I want to lower the car pretty good, especially after being used to this nice drop of the H&R springs. Hopefully as long as PG delivers, I will have them by the end of next week and then the fun begins, trying to figure out how the hell to install the rear parts of the suspension. (butthump)

Your ride is going to be rough. I have BC's installed on my car. You can soften up the dampers as much as you want the ride will still be stiff. The rear can be difficult to do especially if you have the camber links to put in as well.

I do not plan on doing rear camber links. So you recommend leaving in the 2nd collar and just taking it as low as it will go with both still in?

If you're considering lowering it a fair bit, ride comfort pretty much goes out the window.

well you know I am riding on H&R springs on blown stock struts, nothing is worse than that ride quality. I had an 03 eclipse gt on kyb-agx's and eibach pro-kit before and it was harsh ride (I don't mind harsh, just don't want it where people in the car are uncomfortable to ride with me). I am just wondering if there is a HUGE difference between all the way down with both collars, or all the way down with 1 collar removed.

Also for you BC owners, do I really have to dremel out the front strut towers to be able to install these successfully?

Did you order the front camber plates? I think that is what you have to cut the front towers for, to adjust the camber plates.

Ya its only to adjust the plates. You can install wihout cutting them out. It's not to hard to do thought. 3 in bimetal holesaw fits perfectly.

I don't know, I didn't order them extra, but I have heard some people get them with the BC Coils with they order from PG, so I am guessing I did get them? So do the camber plates come installed on the struts already or do I have to do that myself? Also, do I HAVE to install the camber plates? I know nothing about camber.

They are installed on the struts when you get them from PG. I'd drill out the top just to make it easier to get an alignment. Its an easy job. 3 in hole saw fits perfectly and the outside acts as a stencil so it makes it hard to mess up. That way you can adjust camber by just jacking up the car unscrewing the allan nuts a little and pushing on the tire.

I use to. Just make sure everything you unbolted to install them are tightened down good. Make sure the nut on top of the rear shocks are tight too.

Haha I find that extremely hard to believe but good for you.
I don't understand why people are saying ride comfort is worse. Mine is maxed as well. Set at the softest setting all around and I find it better than OEM. A little more firm, but certainly not worse.

Softest setting, it rides better than OEM for sure. Of course the ride will be firmer because the springs rates are stiffer. Compared to a lot of aftermarket coilovers, the BC's are pretty soft. The OEM suspension is decent for DD and some track. But over large bumps or wavy roads, the OEM suspension tends to have the floating feeling.

I already know that, I just don't get why people complain about ride comfort when they get ANY aftermarket suspension, let alone coilovers.

I agree with you on the floating OEM suspension, which is why I decided to replace mine in the first place. I don't track, I got mine solely for the slammed look and firmer ride. Some would consider my reasons a waste, but I achieved the outcome I desired and I couldn't be happier. I am considering autox, but it won't be for a while. By then, I might have upgraded to Mazdaspeed coilovers.

Anytime you get aftermarket coilovers, they are either going to rider a little firmer or harsher than stock suspension regardless.

Hey man, if you're going to auto'x, try using the BC's first. Just get your car corner weighted. They might raise your car a little, but you'll save some money in the meantime.
