Bay Area P5 Owners: Rim Question

I was wondering if anyone knows of a place that will paint my stock polished rims in the Bay Area? I will be getting gunmetal 18's eventually, but for now, I would just like the gunmetal look. I think it would go better with the yellow then the current chrome-like look.

I have read about a couple people who have painted their rims themselves, and I guess that is an option, but, what can I say? I'm a lazy bastard. :p

If there is not a place around here, anyone have any tips on doing it yourself? Like what kind of paint, process I should do, how long it will take, etc.

Any help here is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

They will look freakin bad-ass painted in gun-metal! I have painted several wheels gunmetal.......my wifes Z24 stock wheels, and 2 different P5's stock wheels......They looked really good on the Red P5 and im sure they will look good on the Yellow one. I used 2 cans of "Dupli-Color High Performance Wheel Coating" in "Graphite Grey" (same as Gunmetal).....and 1 can of the same s*** in "Clear Coating"....you wont use all the clear coat can on the four wheels....I actually used that 1 can on almost all 3 of the cars I did.....It took me approximately 2 1/2 hours for all 4 wheels to be done and put back on the car.....When painting use like 4 coats on each wheel....dont just spray the whole wheel gunmetal all in one coating, its going to take quite a few coats for it to come out looking great....and this is for the inside and the outside of the wheels.....and use like 2 or 3 coats of the clear coating at the end...make sure the gunmetal paint is fully dry before you apply the clear coat.....and dont worry about getting paint on the tire after it drys it will scratch right off(I actually left the paint on and while driving the car around the paint comes off. Well have fun!

Thanks for the reply, Citizen!

Did you paint the Polished or non-polished P5 rims?

Do I need to sand the polished ones to make the paint stick better?

Thanks again!

Foggy....if you want them done 100% correct....look in your local yellow pages for someone that does "powder coating".....what you really want to do is have the wheels POWDER COATED.....it will run you about $30-$40 per wheel.....but you will end up with a finish that will NOT come off...and be hard as nails.

Good advice, Nuke! I never thought to look under that. I didn't even know there was listings for that!

BTW, I know I know I spelled your handle wrong. But so did you! ;) :D
